Well my truck has done this before, but it did it twice today. The "check gauges" light will come on and then you can watch the voltage gauge to go down to 8. Truck still starts fine, run fine, lights don't go dim. This has me , anyone has any insite.

Well went out this morning to start the truck, completely dead. Hooked up the charger, got it to start, drove to work. Didn't worry about it today, got out of work still wouldn't start on its own, but once I got it started was able to drive it home. Took the alternator off, look like it had been on the truck for the entire 163000 miles. Went and got it tested, it is total JUNK! I was going to just rebuild it, but I didn't have the time, I need the truck to get to work. So I just went ahead and bought a new one. Truck now holds 14-15 volts without a problem... No more light.
