I've finally decided to go with the TST box on my 2003. I have the Proguard 7 BHAF. My concern is that currently on long sustained grade pulling my 37' 17000lb horse trailer I'm seeing EGT pre-turbo of 1150+. Before I add the box I'd like to lower the EGT's some 150 degrees. I was talking to some guys at the pulls at Gifford last night and they were telling me that the 2004. 5 turbo has a larger throat. Is this true? If so will my 2003 Jacob's brake still bolt up to the 2004. 5 housing? Were can I find a decent used housing? I talked to the guys at Scheid diesel and wasn't to impressed (at least with the guy I was talking to) he was trying to sell me a superchips programmer for my 03' So when we talked about the turbo housings I wasn't real confident he knew his facts

The 04. 5's and up are slightly bigger but have an electronic wastegate actuator that you would have to work around to get your WG to work. Its a big waste of time money and effort to do this, If you want lower egt's with more fuel and pulling go with an aftermarket turbo such as the Industrial Injection Phat shaft 62. 1150 sounds cold to me while pulling unless thats what you have running almost constant while cruising and not under WOT. Spend the money on an aftermarket turbo, ITS WORTH IT! You will max out any single towing what your towing with a moderate amount of fuel though but with a bit more power.

If you are seeing 1,150°F stock, you will see much higher EGTs with any kind of performance box. I try to limit towing EGTs to 1,250-1,300°F (pre-turbo). I understand the 04. 5 and newer CTDs run a little hotter, so 1,300-1,350°F may not be a problem.

Just be careful. Once you add the TST or even an EZ, your EGTs will suddenly go much highter.

Well thanks for the info. I guess I am so used to the EGT's on my 95' holding about 950 ~ 1000 the idea of 1150 stock makes me nervous :-laf The 1150 was like I said on a 6 mile long grade with cruise on.
