I'm assuming the spring loaded valve is needed to create back pressure to force oil to flow through bypass element, correct?
Yes, the spring loaded valve does infact create backpressure, but it does not effect the flow to the point of restricting flow to the full-flow filter. The Full-Flow filter still has a "anti drain back" valve, which keeps oil in the filter, so on start-up, the filter has oil in it, just like a stock filter does. (Only purpose of the anti-drain back valve) However, longer hoses can cause a slower buildup of oil pressure. Amsoil supplies 8' feet of hose, so the filters are no longer than 4 feet away from the filter mount.
