Lowering my truck

I'm lookin for info on how to lower my truck. I don't want to make it into a low-rider or anything like that, I just want to lower it a few inches so our 5th wheel rides closer to nose-level.

May be cheaper and easier to "flip the axles" on the 5er or otherwise modify the 5th wheel to match the truck. Do make sure they mind the total height of the 5th wheel when done.

If you have leads on the rear of your truck you could change the way the are in the pack and remove a couple of needed. That would drop the rear to a rear level look and then you can add air bags for load support if needed.

I never did it, but still would like to do it. Looking forward to reading about what you end up doing. My 5th wheel rides a bit bow high, but I don't worry much about it because of it's light weight.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. We did it on a buddies truck cause he wanted his level but didn't want to mess with the front end so we did the reverse level.

It's actually pretty simple my only suggestion is when doing this with leafs. Use some kind of heavy force clamps to hold the leaf packs together when you undo the bolts so they don't shift on you. Makes it easier to take apart and go back together. Just make sure your aren't clamping the spacers as well but you shouldn't be able to get at them anyways lol.

Thanks guys for your input. I can't flip the axels as they are already are. I really need to lower the whole thing. Front and back. The 5r is already at 13' +". Because of the nose high stance things can get quite 'exciting' when pulling, especially in a crosswind or going downhill.

If it’s getting “exciting” you don’t have enough truck for the load.

RV trailers are allowed to be 13'6" high. Move the rear axle spacer with lower the rear a inch or inch and a half.

Our 39'4" Bighorn is 13'3" and I have towed in high winds several times without major issues. It is a full high profile unit. It came with Correct Track and all steel ply Sailun S367 235/85R16G's

You did not state details of the trailer, however a good all steel ply trailer tire with greatly improve trailer handling, verse a poly carcass ST trailer rag.

I'll have to wait until Saturday or so to post a pic of the truck and 5r hooked up. We're in southern Georgia on the way to Orlando and won't leave here til then.

Truck and trailer tires are stock height.

The 5r is a '14 Montana High Country. Stock height is supposed to be 12' 9". Hooked up it's more like 13' 2". So you can see, it's way too high.

I'll check online for the lowering kits.

Why do you say that? Put on the correct track and move the TV spring spacers.

How are you measuring it? Maybe you just need a 2x4 TV, if you do not want a trailer leveled at a higher height. What is the trailer model, length and what tires installed on it(brand and size). If it has ST235/80R16E tires. The correct track and Sailun ST235/85R1G will raise it about 3 inches. The TV will lower about 1 to 1.5 inches moving the spacers on the rear leafs.

Measured at the highest point (the top of the front A/C unhooked and level and also hooked up to TV. 2wd is not an option for where we live. 305RL 34' long. Carlisle stock sized tires, 235/80R 16.

OK, I told you how to level it and stay within the 13'6" limit for travel trailers. The Sailun LRG all steel tires will override any issues of the trailer sway when riding taller in the saddle. As you can see in the photo of our trailer and truck we have a lot more sail area than you have.

OK, I gave up. Have at it, that is one of the steps I suggested. However that is not all you are going to need to get it level so that it will tow well.
