Here is my sorry tale. I have had this truck 5 months, joined

TDR and got edjumcated about these trucks and

the LP troubles. I add gauges asap and I have 8 psi

and can draw down to 0psi so I buy a new Lp from

Summit (4601?) and install with a prefilter. I start off

with 12-13psi idle and about 9-10 WOT. I was not really

happy with this but it was OK. Since then, about 2000

miles the press has droped to 8 psi cruising. 100 miles

from home, going to pick up a 5th wheel, psi drops to 4psi

and 0 psi at much load. I have hunch it is the crap pump.

well I get home change both filters and no change!:mad: :{

I will not go down this road again so where is the

best price for the FASS system?:{

Thanks for listening.

Have you checked the 12 volt connections to the stock LP? My 4601 ALONE will provide 10 PSI at idle, 5 PSI up a steep grade towing our 5er... The 4601 is only a 7-9 PSI pump, and is mostly used as a pusher pump to assist the stock pump - not replace it - but maybe I'm misreading your post...

DERNIT, you're right - I keep getting the 4600 - which *I* use as a pusher - and the 4601 confused - guess I'll hafta start rechecking the numbers on my pump before I lay my fingers on the keyboard!

But DO check the connections, if you haven't already...

I wonder if....

you have a bunch of "crud" in the screen in the fuel module in the tank? I went through this problem with a couple of other trucks this past winter.

PDR = Piers Diesel Research or something like that - a major player in aftermarket products for our trucks, a great guy - and if you look in the advertisers section of this board, you'll find a link to his business...

Campbell...

You say you had this problem with a couple trucks. I assume you are talking about the bio-gunk on the silky like screen inside the fuel tank.

Did you completely remove the screen on said trucks and the problem went away?

What was your solution and results?

Inquiring minds want to know.

CORed....

It was the "bio-gunk" on one and just plain grit and water on the other. In both cases I flushed the tank and cleaned the "silky like screen".

They did not call back with anymore problems... . so... . no news is good news;)

Thanks for the quick response.

So no permanent removal of the screen itself then?

Did you lift the bed to perform the work?

What did you flush the tank with and what did you use to remove the bio-gunk. I have heard that stuff is very difficult to remove.

I ask because I may be checking mine sometime as I have recently noticed an infrequent, slight hesitation.

screen still in place in both rigs...

dropped the tank... (I have a "big" transmission jack)

I pumped out the "dirty" diesel and added a little fresh... . pumped that out and wiped the excess up as much as possible.

Pine Sol worked on the "bio-gunk"

The Carter 4601 pump will not last. Mine lasted 6 months. The Holley Black, the Holley Blue pumps and the factory Carter pumps last longer, +/- 2 years. I hope the FASS pumps last longer, but I wonder why they don't have a longer warranty if they are so good.

I've wondered the same thing. Guess we'll just have to sit on the bench and see how long they actually last.

"The Carter 4601 pump will not last. Mine lasted 6 months. "

GOTTA watch the absolutes - MY added Carter has lasted well over a year and a half so far with NO sign of weakness or failure - and brought us on home 300 miles after my stock LP quit on me last RV trip out... I have one of the lower PSI Carters I use as a fuel transfer - lighter duty, but it pumps nearly every drop of fuel my current truck uses, and did the same on my '91 since IT was new - 13 years or so ain't BAD - but circumstance vary, and it would be as potentially false for ME to say Carters will last 13 years or more because MINE did, as it is for someone else to claim they fail prematurely just because THEIRS did!... ;)

It's two to one on this thread for the 4061's not lasting. Anyone else had one last more than a year?

Not sure how many are actually using the 4601 as a direct substitute for the stock LP - OR what actual life expectancy is in that scenario - I use a 4600 pusher (sure don't want or need a 4601 in THAT service!), and a lower PSI job as mentioned above with excellent results to date - dunno why a 4601 should be much different - maybe some will chime in with results...
