LSD availability

I am seeing a lot of 3. 54 w/LSD in the signatures. My dealer says that I can only get a LSD w/4. 10 in 2001??? Anybody know any different?

My brother just picked up his 2001. 5 H. O. 6 speed that was built in early January of '01. He was told the same story as you but he ordered the 3:54 LSD anyway. He got it installed and it works well. I have seen new trucks on the lot and it says they have it with the 3:54. GO FOR IT!!!! Chris #ad

With the torque that the Cummins makes the LSD is not optional, it is mandatory. Get it one way or the other. You will be miserable without it.

I've had Cummins power With and Without LSD. Much happier WITH LSD! When shopping some dealers flatout told me you can't get it, but you can! I'll bet that if you told your dealership you'll get your truck from one that will order 3. 54LSD that they'll suddenly find a way to get it for you #ad

I had heard the same thing and was worried when I ordered mine in late August. This dealer insisted that I could get it with the 3. 54 gears. Guess what, it's there. I remember seeing something that said that the 4. 10 gears could only be had with LSD. I think that is what all the confusion is about. Bottom line... Get your LSD and 3. 54 gears.

Don't believe the salesman! I'm sure you've figured from some of the earler responses that the LSD is available with 3:54's. I thought I'd pass on something my dealer (Jasper Jeep) told me when I ordered last summer. I can't remember all the details, but there was a discussion in one of the TDR forums on this subject around the time I ordered (8-26). When placing my order, I mentioned to my salesman that some folks on the TDR were being told LSD wasn't avaliable with the 3:54's; I told him that I was not going to take delivery of the truck with anything other than 3:54's with LSD, no open diff or 4:10's. He was well aware of the controversy, he said there was some glitch in DC's ordering system such that it didn't like orders specifying LSD with 3:54's. They knew the proper tricks to get the order processed. my truck came in on 10-10 complete with 3:54's and Limited slip.

Tell your dealer he's nuts. I ordered the 3:54 LSD from my dealer. He said no problem. And it came that way. Find a good truck dealer that knowes his product.

Been down that road! RedRam1 is right on the money. There's a trick to ordering it that some dealers aren't aware of. I had the same problem. I finally found a Dodge rep. on the 800# (after 3 tries - even most of the reps didn't know how to do it) who knew how to do it. He got in touch with my dealer and told him how. The way I remember it is that when the LSD is ordered, it automatically goes in as a 4. 10. (Dodge thinks that everyone that wants a limited slip wants a 4. 10. ) After doing this, my dealer had to go back into the order and change it to a 3. 54. Then it took. I think he even had to have the district manager in Milwaukee do it. It's like an option within an option. If it's done the other way around, the LSD will be rejected due to the 3. 54. Just because your dealer doesn't know about this little trick doesn't mean he's a bad dealer. Mine is top notch - he just wasn't in on the "secret". Good luck!

I ran into the same problem.

You CAN GET 3:55LSD, my 2001. 5 ETH/DEE 2500 QC SWB 4x2 is one.

Seems the puter tries to reject it, but my inventory control dude manually over rode it and my order confirmed w/o a hitch.
