The stock LSD is kinda rough on my driveway. It is stone, about 800' long, up-hill with 4 curves in it. Since I got the new truck, all the insides of the curves are wash-boarding real bad. I go REAL easy with it but it can't help but slip that inside wheel on the curves.

I told my wife a mere $20k would pave the driveway and then we wouldn't have a problem. As the toaster sailed by my head I heard her mumble something about the $30k I paid for the truck being enough already.....

Any ideas short of an air locker or something?

Thanks for any help, as usual!!

Chris

If your LSD is like mine it will brake-in with a little time and not be as bad after while.

Whatever they use it seems fairly tight when new, and then loosens up after a while. How many miles are on tyour truck?

ROTFLMAO:D :D

Sometimes I think a "Conversations With The Wife" forum would be good on the TDR. ;)

You've got to be kidding,,,,,,,,,right? cause then we could add a forum called "Injuries I Received After The Wife Read The Stuff I Wrote In The Conversations With The Wife Forum"

Wouldn't buying a rake be cheaper? :p

How can a toaster fly? and what's a wife?:p

Push the stort lever on the floor backwards and stand on it. :D

Single and without fly toasters:D

Washboard

I agree with Dave D above, use 4 wheel drive.

I live on a couple of miles of dirt/gravel road, and I put the truck in 4 Hi whenever the road is rough with washboard bumps. The drivability and ride improve noticably.

In 4x4 the truck isn't putting all it's drive forces through just one axle or wheel, causing axle bounce and wheel spin. It's really a big improvement.

And like Dave said above, it exercises the front axle and components some.

I think you will see a big improvement.

Of of course, this could be an opportunity to buy the John Deere tractor of your choice for grooming your driveway :D :D :D

Good Luck! Greg L

I agree with Greg:

Kill several birds with one stone - groom the driveway, plow snow (assuming you see any white stuff), fun toy (useful tool) to have around. And the best part is that it is cheaper than paving your driveway and a LOT more fun!!! :D :D

Steve

Did I forget to mention - it's a diesel...

Geeze, I think I need some more coffe! Thought this thread was about drugs:D (LSD... ..... Stone... ... ... ..... =... ... ... ... BAD) :D

Thanks!!

Guys,

Thanks a bunch. Great info.

Mschevey, it has about 4400 miles on it. I hope you are right about it getting more loose after time. But not too loose :D

Mike, I might try that friction modifier.

I also like the idea of 4w hi. I'll try that tomorrow night coming home.

Hey, I've already got the John Deere 4400!!! Got the big woods blade also. Maybe you are right, why complain!! More time to "justify" the work to do. HeHe... We do get some snow, but not much lately. All that global warming you know:rolleyes:

zman, you seem like a Deere man youself. Great to meet you. I've also got a restored 620 2cyl. I LOVE these things!!

You are right, paving would increase the value. Just gotta get the $'s to do it. Maybe after the truck is paid for :)

Batman, sorry about the fake out there on the LSD. Sorry to let you down:D

Thanks again, great ideas!

Chris

Still giggling after the toaster thing:D I don't have a wife and the girlfriend can't wing a toaster 12 miles (Thank GOD).

My idea is to remove all the stones and water the driveway 24/7!!!! That way your have a justifiable reason to use four wheel drive!! I would do it myself but the apartment complex would be bitter:D

Tom

I got the same problem, well its not really a problem, if I did not have LSD it would not even go up the driveway, its a 20% grade!

I just keep running the tractor with the snow plow over it.

bring it on over zman!

Bring that bad boy John Deere over to my place Steve... I could sure use one! So far I've either rented one or borrowed one from a good friend.

klenger, if I pave my 330' driveway I'd still have . 5 mi. of gravel road to travel to reach "civilization". :D Besides, the gravel road keeps speeders and people that shouldn't be there in the first place, to an absolute minimum. :D

driveway

chris:

i'm sure this won't add a darn thing to the discussion... ..... but, i have a mile of gravel, all up hill. i always use 4X4 going up the drive. i agree on the JD and the driveway maintenance. my JD is an 80 horse MFWD. i scouted around and found an old asphalt roller to pull with the tractor. i grade the road, then roll it. if done when it is a bit moist, you've got a "paved road" for awhile. since i have it shaped well, "crowned" in the center, i only have to do the road about once or twice a year, now.
