For what it's worth... ... . Maxxis was actually founded in Taiwan in 1967. Today they have operations in Asia, Europe, North America and South America.

It appears that I do not have room on the 25R Arctic Fox trailer to install 16" rims with LT tires. I have requested the dealer to measure the distance between the tires on the trailer to verify this.

If I could find a LT tire in a 15", which doesn't appear to exist anywhere, I would be jumping all over it! So... ..... either I go with a 10 Ply rated ST or I just say the hell with it and look for a used TT with 16" rims on it to start with. I'm about ready to stick with my little tent and sleeping on the ground! I don't have to worry about tires with that! :(

Maxxis are still ST tires made in China.

Stick with the tent, then you can at least pull a boat and enjoy the water instead of looking at it;) That has been the main reason I haven't made the plunge into the camper underworld.

Michelin XTA, 7. 50R15, load range H,diameter of 30. 3",max. load 4805 lbs. /tire. this should work for you. I have the 17. 5s on my new Mobile Suites and so far it is a great tire.

Hello Slow six

I have a Junky forest river Toy hauler with lots of space in the wheel wells and have been thinking about going to a 16 inch wjheel but your post about these

Michelin XTA, 7. 50R15, load range H,diameter of 30. 3",max. load 4805 lbs. /tire.

have me very interested??? does any bodyhave experience wuth these tires on this forum load range H impressive 4805 each tire gives one hell of a cushion on my junky forest river GVW of 12000 any and all comments are welcomed

Have a great day

Chris

Now that is some good stuff right there. I am researching now to see if I can locate them. Thanks Slow Six. Finally someone has a better option for a 15" tire. If these are about the same size as a 225 75R 15 they should work great.

NOT... ... ..... it seems a 225 75R 15 is 28. 3" diameter. The Michelin XTA 7. 50R15 is 30. 3".

The trailer in question only has 2" of clearance in the wheel well.

Close, but no cigar! :{

Remember that 28. 3" and 30. 3" are diameters. The radius is only 1/2 the diameter. So, if a tire is 2" larger in diameter, the distance from the hub to the tread of the tire only increases 1" - in other words, you'll only use up 1" of your 2" clearance.

I can see you're getting a little overwhelmed. Too many of us are giving you too much information and not all of it is good. Take a deep breath and don't think about it for 2 or 3 days. Dave Lowry will probably call you. Just tell him you're thinking about another trailer in Fort Worth, make up a story. He'll probably lower the price to get you to buy.

You can't install larger 15" tires with greater ply rating and load capacity without increasing inflation pressure. Tougher tires with higher inflation pressures will soon crack and cause your wheels to fail.

Springs, axles, brakes, wheels, and tires are selected as matched components. You CAN install 16" wheels with LRD tires on your existing 6 lug hubs. They match. I don't know if anyone manufactures 15" wheels rated for LRE equivalent to 10 ply.

The 4805 lb. rated tires suggested above would be so stiff they would beat the trailer to death. Everything in it would eventually fall apart.

Rusty, you forgot the other tire on the opposite of the two axles facing the first. A tire 2" taller would indeed move 1" toward the center but so would the other tire for a totol loss of 2" clearance between tires.

Tommie could have the dealer FLIP the axels and make room for the Sweet

Hmmmmm Maybe thats a plan Probaly not just thinking out Loud :)

Les Schwab Tire centers, have 225/75-15 st 10 ply's 28. 3" dia. about $142. each.

i think they were good for #2800 load per tire at 65-70 psi.

i don't remember the two brands they carry. but if you can't find anything else, they will probably ship.

There is no such thing as a 10 ply tire anymore but if a LRE tire is mounted on a LRD wheel it still has the same carrying capacity as the original LRD unless the tire is inflated to max pressure for a LRE tire in which case the rating and capability of the wheel is exceeded and wheel failure can result. Wheel failure is almost certain to result if run overstressed and fully loaded for many miles.

you are right about the rims, i haven't decided on replacement steel or aluminum rims yet.
as the ones on the r. v. are rusty, by the time i sand blast and powder coat them, i'm better off replacing.
with heavier duty rims.

You are absolutely right. I really don't care where the tires are manufactured or what name is on the side of them. I just want a good tire that will get this TT 900 miles back to Texas safely and not have me sitting on the side of the road somewhere with a torn up TT and a royal case of the " RED *****" !

If I can't upgrade to 16" rims and tires and I can't put on bigger 15" tires with a higher weight rating and I can't go up to a 10 ply rated ST tires because it will cause the rest of the trailer to fall apart... ... ... what in the world does a guy do? Put on more may-pops and hope for the best?

Dang... ... . all this has just about changed my mind completely about purchasing a TT at all. Maybe I would be better off looking for an ultra-light of some kind that doesn't weigh very much!

Yep... ... . I'm overwhelmed. #@$%! Think I will go fishing! :-laf

Harvey, about no more ply ratings a friend of mine is trying to but RV tire's & he said that Costco & Les Schwab's tires are ply rated & I said are you sure & he claims he looked at the tires & they had 10 ply written on them. I was like you I thought they all were like C, D, & E rated tires. Big O & the rest all are marked C, D, & E. He is finding out that they are all made in China & Taiwan. Even Carlisle is not made in the US of A any more. He is pricing 225x75 15 tires. He does not want to spend the extra money for 16in rims. Also what is a LRE Tire & a LRD Wheel. I also warned him to make sure his rims would take the 10 ply tire with the added tire pressure.

The weakest link there is the Load Range D wheel. There's no point in putting a LR E tire on a LR D wheel.

I'm at Costco all the time and I've never seen tires rated in ply rating. They are rated in C, D and E.

By the way a Carlisle is probably the worst of the China made ST tires. I would'n put them on my grandson's wagon.

Grizzly & Harvey, I just checked with a friend of mine who owns a Goodyear tire store in Fremont, CA & what you both say is right. He said that they all are now rated C, D, & E. I was only going by what my friend said as I myself did not see it. I now understand what LRD & LRE mean Load Range D & Load Range E

I was on the Maxxis tire web site and notice they still use ply ratings

I recently went thru this... I upgraded to 16" wheels and BFG 225/75 e rated. All the 15's I found were China built and had a speed rating of 65mph. And very few choices. In the 16 size there were plenty of choices. If for what every reason I had a failure in the road, I would be more likely to find a replacement.
