Does anyone know what kind of ATF to put in a 02 auto 4x4? Also I have been using Rotella 15-40 in this truck. I am assuming that is what th previous owner used since it it marked on the core support. . Is this the recomended oil or should I be using synth or some other brand? What does cummins use? Does anyone know.

i use rotella in mine. i've had no probs--truck has 140K. cummins recommends valvoline preminum blue. but you can use amsoil, delo, delvac, rotella, etc. their all diesel lube.

I've had mine on Amsoil for the last 30K miles and it's been working great. Amsoil also makes a real good ATF, a little cost a little more but when you look at the specs I think it is worth it.

Good luck

Mark

walkabout, could you please note which amsoil products (weights, etc) you run? i've been looking to change my fluids to amsoil this week,a nd this would help.

thanks.

Sure thing,

I run SAE 15W-40 Synthetic Heavy Duty Diesel and Marine Motor Oil in the engine.

SAE 5W-30 in the transmission, Synthetic ATF in the transfer case, and Synthetic 75-90 in the differentials all year around.

Amsoil has a good on line catalog that will tell you what you need to know for your applications. It will give you lube recommendations, filter numbers, capacities, and even fill and drain plug torques. :)

Just go to http://www.amsoil.com/ and enter the store and find the oil and air filter search and enter you info.

Hope this helps

James, if you live where it gets cold in the winter, you might want to use Chevron Delo 400 15w-40 oil in the engine instead of the Shell Rotella T. The Delo 400 seems to flow easier at cold temps.

I don't think it really matters which ATF you use in the transfer case. Obviously some are going to be better than others, but any good quality ATF should be fine. That said, I use Amsoil universal ATF in mine.
