i use power systems since new , but not sure if thats sufficent to do the job. for winter i use a ratio of about 1 oz. to every 2. 5 gal. of fuel.

What about Octel Starreon? It is available at my Chevron distributer 2 1/2 Gallons for $55. 00, it recommends a 1:1000 concentration. That treats 25000 gallons of fuel... pretty reasonable if it does what it claims, they have a product information:1-800-441-9547.

We have been using it at work in our standby gensets, but not long enough to have a history. My Chevron distributer recommended it, and Cummins Northwest said it was OK to use.

Any comments good or bad?

My only problem with using engine oil is the additives in them are not meant to burn. That and some of the additives are solids which in an engine is o. k. but in a tight tolerance injection pump and injectors makes me cringe.

Just use an additive made for diesel fuel or at the least use non-detergent engine oil. Can still buy ND at wal-mart.

I started mixing 8 oz of Stanadyne with 8 oz of non-detergent oil for each fill up. I've got 6 quarts of oil left over from my old Oliver crawler I needed to use up, after that I may go buy some more or some 2-stroke oil.

oil

so i shound not add any rotella 15-40 to the tank. what kind of two stroke oil are you using. synthetic or mineral oil base. 2-stroke oil isnt cheap, i ride sleds and the cheapest skidoo oil is about $ 22 per gallon.

There ya go!. No need to buy the spendy injector oil. It's just for the lubrication... get the cheapest stuff you can find.

From what I've read, you shouldn't use a synthetic 2 stroke oil since it may not burn completely. General consensus is that dino 2 stroke is better should you choose to add oil to your fuel.

I should have added more to this remark.

Although 2 stroke oil is a great lubricator I have some reservations about using it in a catalytic controled exhuast system. I fear early plugging and therefore more maintenance on this system. The added combustion particales could also gum up the injectors. I really don't know nor do I think anyone else does if adding 2 stroke oil will gum up the injectors. 2 stroke oil is formulated to perform in a gas engine under spark ignition at a lot lower compression rather than in a diesel engine which ignites from severe compression. I could be wrong but I like to error on the side of caution.

If you dump in a quart of 2 stroke oil per tank that's around $2. 00 additional per tank of fuel. Power Services in the 92 oz white jug for winter or gray jug for summer is more ecenomical.

I recommend just using a lubricating additive made for diesel engines. By do so will also add the benefits of injector cleaning and if using the right additive anti-gelling also.

ON EDIT:: Useing a additive for diesel engines will also add the benefit of a anti-microbal.

I've been adding 2 stroke injector oil for >90K miles on the Dodge and >80K miles on the Jetta. Both rigs start, idle and run perfectly. if there was any fouling from the injector oil it should have shown itself by now.

It's a clean oil (no ash) and made to lubricate and burn. I'm more interested in what it's doing for the VP44 (lubricating) than the rest of the system but it appears to burn off completely. Others have shown photos of disassembled VP's that looked very clean. . and they were using injector oil in the fuel.

Anyway, it's probably overkill but I'm going to add some to every tank of fuel. . ULSD or not.

i just dump a quart of 2 stroke oil into the gas tank. . i get the one they sell in autozone made by citgo, $2. 50 a quart aint that bad if the kitty ko goes bad mare reason to take it out... :)
