Lubricating landing jacks

What is the best lubricant to apply to a fifth wheel's landing jacks? And what should be lubricated?

Any type of dry lubricant on the legs graphite, silcone, etc. Personally I don't use anything yet.



white lithium grease or bearing grease ( personally any kind of grease ) on the gears on the head of the jacks.

Extend the legs as far as they go,clean them,then spray

with silicone. Spray silicone into the alignment tube

( where the crank handle would go). Take the covers off

the top of the legs and grease the gears in the gear box on

top of the legs.

I recently greased my landing gear, and took the gearbox apart on the electric motor as well to replenish the grease. The grease was semi-o. k. , but needed to have the teeth etc. relubed.



The landing gear itself, is it a screw-jack setup that makes the legs go up and down? It seems about the only thing that would provide the mechanical ability to lift the weight in that space. Has anyone been able to lube this area? I haven't figured out how to get to it yet.

I don't put anything on my landing gear jacks, all they are is 1 tube sliding inside the other. But you can grease the workings on top. I have been using Amsoil MP HD on all the slide tubes, works great, I would probably use it on the jack gears as well.



amsoil MP is like a wax, it don't come off, and I don't have any rust on my slide parts yet. Plus it cost about 1/3 as much as that stuff camping world sells for spraying on slides.

I haven't figured out how to lube the screw jack part of the leg. This is the part that cranks the legs up and down below the gears on top. (I'm guessing this is what is down there). I don't think they want you to lube these, then we can buy new ones!

I have never heard of the legs wearing out on the landing gear before but I guess it could happen.



Personally I wouldn't want to put grease on the part that extends, in my opinion if there was grease in there it could collect alot of dirt and render it inoperable or prematurly wear it out. Don't know for sure but that would be my guess.
