O. K. the lucas are in and. Oh my:D Gosh:D what a difference. The throttle response is like instant and it raps through all the gears in like just a couple of seconds. The power is truly impressive. I am almost afraid to punch it from a dead stop for fear of snapping my pinion gear right in half. (maybe not quite) I do bet it will give my trans a run for its money. I did notice however that I can bury the EGT's with no problem it would be very easy to go over 1200*. What are the options to lower EGT's. Turn pump down wastegated turbo..... What else anything fairly simple? And a big thanks to big don a nice guy and freindly prices.

I had the same problem three weeks ago when I instaled my new injecters. Called Piers and he said to back the main power screw out on the pump. I moved mine out 1/6 of a turn at a time till the EGTs became manigable and left it at that. You can also go to a larger turbo to get more air into the motter but that is not an option for I am maxet out on my turbo boost. See signature.

But the injecters do work.

Harlan:rolleyes:

Gee 38 pounds is that all? :--) I think that the highest that i have hit so far has been about 28 but the old egt's start to go through the roof. I think that I will have to back that screw out because when I tow I could see things getting warm going up a hill quick. Yes the injectors definately work!:D

Defland,

Your signature didn't say anything about a larger exhaust - that will lower the EGT quite a bit. More air in will help as well. Have you checked the timing?

These are a couple of things that popped into my head when reading your thread.

lower EGT's

what about customized high flow air box?? That should help. I've been thinking about taking a rotozip to my air box to let it flow more:D that little stock opening is pittiful:D B. O. M. B:D Oo.

I've been following everyones' talks about these inectors since Pier's has them on sale. Does anyone have the Lucas POD's and tow heavy? If so, how are your EGT's? How do they effect MPG? The power increase sounds great, but if I can't tow 12,000 lbs. without melting my pistons, I may not be so interested. :D

I know that big don tows alot of wieght with them but he is also running a 14cm wastegated housing. I know that I could turn the fuel screw in and do a few things and make it managable. But if you hold it to the floor its going to get hot in a matter of a couple of seconds. So I just don't hold it to the floor. :( I will check timming when I adjust my valves that sounds like a good idea. I also like the exhaust idea but I really like the way the factory did it on our trucks so I will have to find the right exhaust. Thanx for all the info men keep the ideas and power comming. :D ;) :D Dan.

Quick question for those who know...

This has come up here in this discussion a couple of times and I have wondered the same thing.

If I install these POD injectors, then dial down the max fuel screw to control EGT's, then will I be back to the same fueling that I am at with the stock injectors and the pump turned up about 1 turn?

With my truck the way it is now, with a 12cm^2 housing, pump tweaked a lil' bit, 3" down pipe to 3. 5' exhaust, and airbox opened, I see max boost @ 25 psi and EGT's are a tick over 900* Just food for thought, thanks for your help guys!

Russell

i think that with your exhaust and box that your egt's will be lower than mine so you would not have to adjust the pump. I see 28lb of boost with bone stock pump and a 16cm housing. These injectors will make you crap at the power difference. :D

Guys,

Glad everyone is happy with their injectors of choice. I can tell you that their is not injector that can compare with the Lucas injector for making power. The biggest gain is that you can get more power without cranking the pump up and this prevents premature pump failure. The Lucas injectors can be used for towing. I run them in 'Ol Blue and tow 12-14,000 lbs regularly witohut heat issues. The truck has a Banks intercooler and a 14cm turbine housing. I also have a 5 speed, 3. 54 gears and a GV overdrive unit. I think for the money these are the only injector to purchase. You can then adjust the pump to get as much or as little of a gain as you want. With other injectors you can crank the life out of the pump and still not run as good as you could with the Lucas injectors.

Piers, can you add anything I've missed???

thanks

Don

LUCAS

just installed the P. O. D. s in dad's truck. He is all :D, only problem is his 30 psi boost gauge goes all the way around and needle gets stuck on the pin;) going to have to step up and get a 50 psi gauge i guess. Power is unbelievable compared to before. Smoke is very controllable with foot. Definitely no worse than my truck with dd3's. He will be dragging his 5er this weekend, cant wait to see how they do. (going with neighbor who has a throttle body injected 454. ) he thinks he will have to slow down on the hills to wait for my dad. I might follow along just to laugh at the ol chevy getting spanked :p

Thanks guys, it sounds like towing is not a problem. Maybe back off on my pump adjustments if necessary. Still curious about the POD's effect on mpg. I know it takes fuel to make power, and these injectors apparently flow more fuel to make the power increase. Any input?

rubberneck, I'd bet your dad will be the one waiting at the top! :D Could you let us know how he likes the injectors after towing this weekend? Thanks. :)

dont know if this will help much but the first tank I got was 16. 5 on new eng still breaking in 4. 10 gears (that suck) lots of high way time just below the govaner top speed 75

At first glance I would say that I am getting better milage because I make more boost under lighter throttle. As for top end 80 was all the way to the floor. I can easily hit 100mph now. The truck drives so much different its amazing. I can't wait to tow my jeep somewhere just to see the difference in towing. But around town its great I can pass and get in front of people without a problem(as I fog all the mosquitos). It does smoke a little at idle now and I have adjusted the smoke screw and that did not help but its really not much of a big deal.

nope, installation was a piece of cake. my dad keeps the engine compartment almost as clean as the inside of the truck so that made the work easy. He did spray all the old injectors with penetrating oil a couple of days before we yanked them out. made it easy. we worked on the truck about 4 hours. this included injectors and removing all the high pressure lines and advancing the timing to 1. 5mm

THANKS BIG DON !!

Well, i finally installed the LUCAS injectors i bought from BIG DON in Dec tonight. WOW :--) I did a 3rd gear holeshot out of the fuel island at the local truck stop and spun it all the way around !! :D Gotta re-adjust the pump tomorrow... . lots of smoke, the pyro races the boost gauge. I thought 34# of boost was good before, but now its close to 40# THANKS again BIG DON. ;) :D  Oo.

Now that you have fuel , it is time the think more boost to cool things down. Called Piers last week ,but he was in Ca. and will be back the first of week. It was sugested to me to go to a larger hot end . For I am getting pessure blockage in the hot end and not getting all the air I can use. Will let you know what is said on this when he returns. Why turn gown pump. just add more air? Dont know where the limit is but we will find out.

Harlan:rolleyes:
