Lucas oil???

Don't flame me too badly. I swear I sat for more than an hour doing a forum search.



Just had a dealer completed oil change and coolant flush. My truck has 36K on it. I'm interested in switching to Amsoil (seems to be the oil of choice) once I find a cheap source for bulk.



In the meantime my truck will be taking a high speed trip back and forth from Chicago to AZ pulling my bike trailer, and I'm curious about an oil additive such as Lucas.



Opinions?

WOW, that is pretty wild That really makes me wonder about alot of the full synthetic oils out there? Makes me glad that I haven't used any oil additives! Someone should do a test like that with Amsoil, Royal Purple, and Redline I would like to see the outcome.

i dumped a quart of this lucas s*** in my transmission last time i changed the oil in it. i was looking for something to smoothe the shifrting. transmission acted like it wants to grind into gears. the stuff didnt help any any it may be worst now. transmission oil change this weekend. thanks for posting that. this is why i love this site. anyone know what a good oil for transmission and diffs is. im not too sold on synthetics either. please pm me. i dont want to throw this thread off subject. thanks to everyone

I just hope whomever created that test didn't have some vendetta against Lucas and filled their bottle up with milk.

Be Careful...

Be careful when reading that article. Two differnt weights of oil were used in the first scenario and Lucas was only added to one of them. Same case in the second scenario. Yes, the untreated oil seemed to hold up just fine and the stuff with Lucas didn't do so hot, but I've got some reservations about the legitimacy of the test.



1. Why use 80-90 vs. 80-140? Not at all a "fair" test.

2. How much Lucas was added? Recommended amount or "some"?



I don't have anything bad to say about Shaeffer's, don't have any recent experience with them to start bad-mouthing them here. I just wasn't really impressed with the accuracy of the test. Maybe the write-up was bad and the test was OK, I dunno. But I can't tell just from reading what was there.

I don't use oil additives. You shouldn't either. JMO. Stick with what is called for by the manufacturer. JMO, oh yeah... said that already.
