Question on new Ram add?

I need some help with a Lucas injector pump type 1080 Perkins 1000 series in a backhoe. The machine just doesn't have much power at all, but only has 1900 hrs on it. Since it has so little time on it I assume everything is in pretty good shape just tuned for emissions. It doesn't smoke at all, not under load, not stomping on the throttle, nothing. I have sucessfully taken the AFC (aneroid) apart and managed to get a little low end power. The total power is still limited. Can anyone tell me how to adjust a little more fuel to it? How good are these pumps? Thanks in advance.

i am not familiar with this model but have seen some lucas pumps that have diaphragm governor and on those the maximum fuel supply to injectors can be rather adjusted easily, if it has mechanical governor(centrifugal) then there has to be some adjustment screw from where you can adjust max fuel . is it a multi plunger pump or a rotor type ?

Here is a picture of one. It is at a bad angle though.

You don't happen to need a 50's Mercedes to add to your fleet do you?

Is this a Lucas CAV/DPA? If so it was used on some Cummins B series applications. I have a Service book that has adjustments and some discussion of this pump. E-mail me.

brian i have one CAV (it is roto diesel version) pump lying some where let me find and i might be able to help you

by the which model is the 50 benz that you mentioned ?

thanks

bob

Well there's your problem. It's a Lucas product.

Back in my motorcycle mechanic days, '60s and early '70s BSA, Norton and Triumph motorcycles all had Lucas electrics. We offen refered to him as the "Inventor of Darkness" LOL

Bob,

I don't know for sure what model it is. It might even be a late 40's model. It kind of looks like the staff cars you see in the WWII movies, but smaller. Its been 5yrs since the guy showed it to me, and now it is sitting out with a sign. It is black, stick, 4 cyl diesel. The body is in really good shape, and I think it is a 2dr or 2dr with suicides. Did they make such a thing? Like I say it has been a long time since I looked at it. If you are interested I will go take a closer look. Brian

thanks for the reply Brian

if it is not a problem and when you can please take a look at it and let me know how the condition is , i would really appreciate very much, do you know if the motor runs or not? does the guy know what model and what year is it ?

i will be checking on the 4 cyl CAV pump that i have tonite for what i mentioned in earlier post, if i rememeber correct it does have one screw for that purpose and it looks exactly like what you have posted.

thanks

bob

Bob,

I do know it runs, and the body and paint are in good condition looking at it from a distance. I will try to look at it next time he has it sitting out. It is really raining here today, so I doubt it's out.
