First post here... I did some digging in the search, but, didn't really find anything that really helped much.
I have a set of Helo Maxx 8 16x10's with 315 BFG muds on them holding up one of my Fords that I want to put on my 92 once I get the nose off of the ground(plow truck, front springs are pooched. )
Anyhow, the truck currently has 13/16 nuts on it, and I stuck a Ford steel wheel on there, I REALLY don't like how the nuts fit the wheel, the seat on the wheel is almost bigger than the lug nut itself. I suspect that the aluminums will be no better. I'm not sure exactly how thick the aluminums are at the lug seat, they're inset a good 3" from the outer face of the wheel, and they're still on the truck, but, I think I MIGHT have enough lug to be OK.
I Guess my question is should I get some bulge seat lug nuts(3/4 hex, but, is the seat bigger than a 13/16" straight nut?), or duplex(7/8 hex x 2. 5") ones, or just go to 9/16 studs and not worry about it. I'm probably going to be into $80-100+ for lugnuts anyhow, and I have lots of 9/16-18 duplex nuts.
I've got 2 sets of Aluminum wheels kicking around, and 3 sets of steelies, 2 Ford, one Aftermarket... I'd like to be able to use them on all of my trucks without issue.

wheel nuts

i have hummer h2 alloys on my truck and use affco, circle dirt car oversize lug nuts on stock lugs. the lug nuts do not tighten down fully to the end of the threads but have been told that as long as the threaded depth is equal to the stud diameter then clamping force should not be an issue. i have about 40000 mi. on this combo and use an impact to rotate tires and have had no problems so far. hope this helps:rolleyes:

i would check your local auto parts store. advance or autozone probly has cheap china crap, but if you have an actual auto parts store, they should have some good options for you.

welcome to the TDR. your new diesel brotherhood ;) or should i say cult? :-laf

I don't have any of those chain stores at my disposal... Just a real parts store with catalogs in a rack at the front counter. Unfortunately, small town = small stock, and most of that stuff will have to be ordered in, I pretty much have to commit to buy to get my hands on a lug nut just to check it for fit...

Anyhow, I'm glad to be here... It's been a long time coming, took me 8 years to find a 1st gen at a decent price and have the money to buy it, so, I bought 2... . LOL

what i meant was that the big chain stores are the ones with the china junk. the small town little hole in the wall auto parts shops are the ones with the good quality stuff. even if you have to order them, a reasonable shop will let you order a differnt set if your not satisfied.
