Hey guys just installed a new Luk Pro Gold and now it has a shudder when I take off in second and reverse, first is a little bumpy but manageable. On a steep hill takeoff there is a considerable amount of shaking. Question I have is this normal wear in for this clutch, a serious problem, or did the mechanic miss a step? Flywheel turned, plates in correct direction, everything cleaned with brake cleaner and allowed to dry before install. Runs great except for that. Tow a 33 foot fifth wheel and am concerned if this thing is going to fail . Any help would be greatly appreciated. :D

A performance clutch is going to grab more. That is why they will transmit more HP. If yours is a ceramic, metalic or combination it will grab more than organic. It should smooth out after a thousand miles or so, but the more HP a clutch is able to hold the more they generally grab when letting them out. Jake

I does get better with age but when towing you learn how little clutch movement to use also you start out in first and it cuts down on the shuttering. :D

So basically the clutch is putting more of the engines horsepower to the drive right? Have gotten in the habit of just using first all the time and it's much better.

When you talk about clutch movement are you talking about not having to put the petal all the way to the floor?

Did a trip from Alaska to South Carolina, about 8000 miles total, pulling a 10000 pound trailer. After replacing the clutch last week I found that the material on the clutch face was almost to the rivets. Truck has about 76,000 miles on it so I guess it was probably due.

The mechanic actually had heard the same thing about a wear in period but we both didn't believe it. Under the assumption that it would be like a brand new truck, nice and smooth.

Appreciate your help guys, Thanks:D

I believe what he means is that with your new clutch it will take less pedal movement to engage/disengage the clutch. For instance, on your old clutch, you would have to release the pedal quite a bit for the disk to grab, and with your new clutch it probably grabs sooner. With some time and practice you'll learn to operate it much more smoothly.
