I just ordered a set of the Lund slotted grill inserts to take on a little different look and was wondering if these interfered with the cooling in any way. I pull a 5th wheel trailer and at times haul a 11. 5 ft slide in camper and tow a 18 ft. boat. Will these cut down on my cooling any?

Don't see how the inserts could harm cooling when some of us are running fanless with no problems. My local rental yard has the slotted Lund's on it's 3500 that they use for delivering equipment, including backhoes, I asked if he had cooling problems because the Lund's do look restrictive, he said no problem. They look real good too.

Just added a set of the stainless Lunds myself so I'll keep you posted ... can't see how normally they'd restrict air that much (for radiator or intercooler]. Since these mount by thumbscrews instead of clips I added jam nuts to the shafts in case 'diesel tremors' caused the screws to back out.

dewdo,

I've always had good luck with Lund products. . Had the inserts on the last 3 trucks... This time I got the stainless, so my Girlfried ca recognize my truck from the myriad of white Rams on the street... . No cooling props, and they do catch their fair share of bugs... ... ...

You will notice, after installation while towing in the summer, you will run a little warmer, you will also notice a slight drop in performance while towing either your 5th wheel or camper.

I have a set and install them in the winter only!!

They restrict air flow, there is no question about it. I warm up within 2-5 miles with them in and around 6-8 miles with them out depending on temperature. Keep them and use in the winter to even out those cold days. #ad

But I wouldnt run them in the summer, heat kills the intercoolers designed purpose and without air you get heat.

My . 02 worth.

The reason I put them on was I am planning a trip to Alaska this summer. The last time I drove up there with my 1972 Ford and camper It would start running hot and I had to stop every once in a while and clean the bugs out of the radiator and a/c condensor. I figured with the slotted Lunds I wouldn't have to do that.

Anyway thanks for the comeback

Hey, you guys with the Lunds... where can I get them? They look like exactly the items I've been searching for to help keep my truck warm in the winter. Nice picture. I'm sold. Thanks in advance.

Dave, JC Whitney carries most of the Lund inserts. Best thing to do is call or email them for their Dodge Truck catalog, it has many more accessories for our trucks than the regular catalog, plus it's in color. The inserts pictured above in this thread are the screen type, Dewdo is speaking of the slotted type, both look good. I just use their solid plexiglass winter front inserts as of now.
