And ol' Les has them on sale. You'll save a whole $10 on a $200 tire (285's)! Assuming all stores being equal.

If you're serious, I'd look into the source fishjack1 mentioned. Even with shipping they would be a bunch less than the local Schwabs are selling them for. And once they're mounted, Les's stores would probably rotate and service them thinking you got them from him (shhhh) ;)

Yeah, Les has exclusive on Toyo's in his store territories. Their twice annual "sales" are pretty much a joke. A store manager told me Les sells more Toyo's than all other dealers combined... I dunno. Also, the story goes that Toyo was willing to partner with Les many years ago when some of the big names wouldn't, so he has been loyal to Toyo and told the other's who now bang on his door to stuff it.

My buddy is trying to get a set on his 92 from Schwabs but they refuse to mount them on his stock wheels. They say they need a 8-10" wheel, I call BS. He also said they quoted him $173 but he gets a bit of a discount.

SRadke,

If your friend is trying to mount 285/75s on his stock 6. 5 inch wheels, they are doing him a favor in my opinion by refusing to mount them. Yeah, it can be done, but I'm thinkin' he'd prematurely wear the center right out of them. That would be a shame on such a decent, and pricey (even at your friend's discount) tire.

FWIW,

-Jay

Aren't the stock wheels 7. 5"? He ran 255/85 M-55's for his last set and got 42k towing miles out of them but he'd like to step up to an E rated tire.

-Scott

Not sure about stock wheel width on 1st gens. Stock wheels on second gens up to about '99 or 2000 (whenever the stock wheels went to the aluminum alloy, which are 8") were 6. 5 inches, I believe.

The 255/85s I bet were a compatible width with the narrower wheel.

I ran into the same thing with les schwab. They didn't even want to mount my 265 75 16s ( truck came with 245s) . 285s? noway.

Just mounted a set of 265s a couple weeks ago. With just over two thousand miles on them my impressions are very positive concerning the sidewall flex and the ride considering I am runnig them at 62PSI. The only detractor I would mention would be the noise, a bit of a howl for my taste, but tolerable.
