I own a 96 slt 4x4 K&N 3. 54 rear Reg. cab Auto Trans. 255/85/16S,I'm getting about 18 m. p. g. ave. (no towing). 60% Hwy. 40% City. I'm thinking about coming over to the dark side and owning a 24 valver. But the 12 valvers are scaring me with their M. P. G. claims!, with normal driving isn't the 24 val. the same as the 12 val. ?

I get between 19-22 MPG with my truck you can see my signature for details, but then again people tell me I drive like a grandma so maybe that is is why I am in the up teens low 20's.

My 2000 3. 55 2x4 gets 19. 5 almost consistanly, no matter how hard I seem to drive. That's without a load, other than the 500+ pounds that I carry all the time.

Doc

I drove around 500 miles last weekend, non-towing. I ran 5 over the limit when I could and avg'd 18. 3. I don't baby it, much.

I've only had my '01 for a week [today] and it has only 9200 mi on it. [ I bought it used. ] I averaged 15. 1. Is that BAD ?

Ran 15 - 16 stock and broken in

now 17. 5 - 18. 5 BOMBED to around 400 rwhp.

This is at 85mph with some intown driving.

Need to drive more with recent bombing to be sure.

Last october i took a trip to IDaho 3000 miles round trip. When i got back i figured my milage for the whole trip.

Best milage - 19. 7

Worst milage - 17. 7

average milage for the entire trip - 18. 6

19. 4-19. 6 consistantly right now if I could make myself drive like an old lady I could do better

this winter, prebombing, with winter fuel and breaking in, I was running as low as 12mpg so I am very happy right now

3500 H.O. 6 speed mpg

I am glad to report that since the modifications, I receive 18 mpg in stop and go traffic and towing I average 13 mpg with a 4. 10 rear end. Have not used it for exclusive highway driving yet without a load.

Thank you very much.

Read my post in 2nd Generation Ram ( Good Sunday Good MPG ) I think its on page 3 or 4 by now. MY new 2001 get better mpg than my old 92. :D :D :D And on this day I did alot of stop and go driving. :D

You will should be able to surpass that 18 MPG mark after your 24valve is broken in, but dont expect to be getting your best mileage till after 15,000 miles or maybe sooner if you do a nice heavy pull. There are a number of people driving regular who exceed 22 MPGwith 24 valves; i beleive most of these have some kind of timing module like the EZ or VA. Of course with the right tuning the 12 valve could probably match that. One guy reported 23 MPG at 65 with a 12 valve after Jeff at STP in Atlanta had put the "coon tune" on it and I think that is probably right in line with the best for 24 valves at that speed. I have done better than that but it was driving super slow granny mode in fact there are not to many grannys who would drive as slow as I do when I am trying to check for my max mileage.

It would be interesting to see which could outdo the other 12 Vs24 valve in objective tests. I think the long help notion that the 12 valve has the best mileage is false and then agian are we talking with mods are without. I think they are pretty darn close but my money is on the 24.
