HELP! I've been looking at the Mickey Thompson Classic II cast wheels. Anyone have them? How do you like them? The pictures I've seen look good, but have not seen one in person yet, no one around here have them in stock.

I know that Alcoa doesn't make them, M/T has contracted someone to manufacture them for them. I talked with M/T, they admit that they are not as strong as the forged. However, I'm not going off road racing, the "White Obsession" in just a daily driver. The Classic II are rated at 3100#.

Wish I could help you out Bob although, as you know, I have the M/T Alcoa Challenger (forged) wheels. I have seen a set of the Classic IIs and they look real nice.

**the only real reason i posted was to keep the thread near the top for ya**

John,
Did the Classic II's that you saw have a good finish on them? I understand that they are suppose to be highly polished. I also noticed the back space is 5". This should help prevent them from sticking out too far. However the negative to that is that they will not look as deep. What is the back space on your Challengers?

Correction, the Classic II's are rated at 3300#.

The Classic IIs I saw were on a Ram at Dyno Days. They looked somewhat highly polished however, I don't know how old they were or how well they had been taken care of. One thing though Bob, cast aluminum wheels will never polish as well as forged aluminum wheels because of the tight (i. e. , dense) grain structure present in forged wheels.

The backspacing on the Challengers and Classics is 4 9/16". Most of the 16x8 wheels have similar backspacing dimensions. Where you get into the "deep dish" look is with the 16. 5 wheels. In fact, if you are using 16. 5x10 wheels, EVEN the Warn 4x flares won't cover the tires. In addition, these wheels place more stress on the bearings due to the increased mechanical advantage they impose. Another thought about the 16. 5s... they have a 5 degree bead seat angle which precludes the tires from being safely aired down for serious off-road travel (if you're so inclined).

Big Bob, we just put a set of MT II,s on my wifes truck last weekend. Her truck is only a 1/2 ton,er so capacity was not a real concern. As far as finish goes, they do have a highly polished surface, more than most cast wheels do.

..... that's exactly what I meant to say #ad

A guy in a v-10 Ram pulled up beside me at the carwash the other day and he had the MTII's. He asked me if I wanted to buy them because he didn't like how big the holes were and didn't like how they looked. I too thought they looked too big for that wheel and kinda thought about how unsafe they might be for heavy loads with all that aluminum missing because of the big holes.

I have the Eagle 589's and they're rated at 3700lbs. I'll be going with Welds pretty soon because of looks, but I think the 589's look better than the MTII's.
