Just GOT TO LAUGH !!

HHhuntitall,

I do like the McMillians. I was interested in the Sage International as I heard they are being used on the M-21 "Designated Marksman" Rifles. With significant accuracy improvement!!

The others were just general information as alternatives. Glad you came aboard with your information.

There is also a laminated M1-A stock design. I dont care for the solid walnut/burch stocks. They warp in wet weather. My M-14 required regular re-zeros during the monsoon seasons;)!

Wish we had those McMillians back then!!!

GHarm, I've got a friend that's foaming at the mouth to get ahold of one of those... . He's not one of the 11 guys that got those. I think there ended up bieng some more made, too... . He's stuck using AR platform rifles... . Luckily, his C. O. is pretty open-minded, and he's managed to get a couple of AR10s and some match grade uppers to use for his team. I happen to know where he got the Krieger barrels chambered and installed :D Krieger was very generous once they recieved a DOD supply request, and my friend was very, very happy when he first starting doing accuracy testing after breaking the barrel in a few dozen rounds.

The M-21 designation was developed in the late '70s. The newer rifle is the M25, developed in the early '90s. Most of those recievers are still floating around in service, and I've even heard of some being called back from CMP use. The newer rifles are definitely one of the above, but with an good C. O. , you can proabably add pretty much any options you want to your rifle. The wieght is the biggest limiting factor. Who wants to carry a 14lb monstrosity door to door?!?! That's one reason the SOCOM was built for the Navy trials. Much lighter, yet still delivers. I'm sure there are some Troy and Sage systems in use out there. I can understand how a good rifle on overwatch would ease your nerves... ... . at least a little. Still, I never saw any in use in '02-03. All had the McMillan stock, with a few custom mounts for optics..... And maybe I missed them. I cetainly thought the Troy system would help with overall accuracy, so I was bumfuzzled trying to figure out why it was walking around so bad... . It has a barrel tensioning system, and the way it bolts into the rifle through the rear sight assembly and then clamps down on the reciever with the lower piece, I thought for sure it would make a big improvement. Certainly was dissapointed.

Luckily, this market should aid me in selling mine without losing too much money!!! :D Then we go back to the McMillan tried an true platform... . I do think I'm going to try to manufacture a different scope mount, using the rear sight holes as part of the attachment points... . When I get time..... right after I retire... .

Oh, forgot to add this link... Eric Pierce. An old hand on the M14 and Garand. Somewhat just down the road from me... . :http://www.nationalmatcharmory.com/home_page.htm

Feeling as though I should be purchasing a lottery ticket. Shop owner told me he would hold some 20 rd mags he had back on the shelf, collecting dust. Got them for $35/piece. Two of them are CMI mags, one is a "OM" and the other has no markings. They are all in good shape with minimal wear.

Pretty happy :) Now I am looking for a scope mount for her. Any recommendations out there from personal experience?

Yeah... I'm jealous.
Thanks:) I am pinching myself, especially in this current climate.

It shoots real good (sub MOA) out to 200 yds. I havent tried it further. Points real nice, sort of like a good shotgun.
I got the barrel as a demil that gauges 0 on both ends (for almost nothing), sent it out th be cut, crowned and threaded by Evolution gun works.
Receiver is a Armscorp.
I have plenty of m14 parts sitting around, so it was almost free other than the receiver.

Patriot that sounds like a really sweet gun! I bought a socom knowing that it would take work to get it into a MOA gun at 100 yds. So at least I went into it with my eyes open. Just kicking myself as she was outside my stocked up calibers. Already have stocked 100 rds by my persistent haunting of the big box stores.

Will bring her home tomorrow and take her down, looking at the trouble points. Give her a good cleaning and get outside too see if I can get her dialed in to an acceptable level off the bags.

Careful on your ammo. If it's not the same lot number, it may just not shoot where you put it if you switch boxes mid-group. That being said, there are a few different scope mounts out there... .

This is the most "cost effecient" model I've used. They're not the best, but work well. I'd suggest torquing it down with a torque wrench and checking it periodically... . I don't really like them, but they've been used by many with good results. Guess it's what I'm going back to when I get the time.....

Remember, they're prone to working loose after repeated firing.....

I don't think you'll have any problems with sub-moa groups as long as you can shoot well and use a good ammo the rifle likes..... If it's assembled properly, as it should be, then it will do ok. You'll really like it, I think.

This is a 50 yds off a soft rest, tucked in tight. 4 shots :) Not sure why I had the flyer... Winchester 147g nato ammo used.

With all the trolling that I have done over the years, I was half expecting it to need some TLC out of the box. I was very impressed at what she did! I was gonna pull her out of the stock, yet now I am afraid too!

I will be interested to see as the temps here were hovering in the 20's. She had been cooled to that temp prior to shooting. I know that the synthetic stuff is less resistant to temp fluctuations, yet... ?

Looking forward to scoping her and getting her out to 100yds. Come spring, I will also have access to a range that is about 500 yds. I will be interested to see how she performs then? Hopefully, I will also get my hands on some heavier ammo by then too.
