Winter Heating Survey.......

Just curious what kind of computers you guys are using? Mac or PC. Personally I use a Mac now because Vista sux.

Interesting numbers. I just read that MAC now is at about 25% of the marketplace due to folks hating Vista so much. Also in their annual report, Microsoft has acknowledged MAC and admitted that they are a competitor.

I've bought 4 Apple laptops in all, (trying to make them #1) in fact I liked the 12 inch the best the first Apple lap-top I bought. I'm not very competent just bang along, used them for a time then give one to my son, one to G/Daughter and bought one son another, now looking at that skinny one. I bought Apple as its less affected by junk than others owing at the time less popular, also I'm told Apple knows what goes into them, whereas the others have parts supplied by the lowest bidder. Seems the smart money today regarding house building by private party its all time and material. The owner knows the price of materials plus hours to complete job, if contracting, usually lowest bidder gets job, then tries to keep as much of the agreed bid for profit.

I use them all just about every day. My personal machine is a MacBook Pro 15. I run Windows XP, Windows Vista Enterprise x64 and SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 virtual machines on VMware Fusion. In the lab there is about 50/50 Mac and PC. Can't beat the reliability of the Macs, especially the TiBooks and PBG4s, still going strong. The ThinkPads have noticeably taken a dive after they went to Lenovo.

I am very interested in this also. My wife and I have talking about getting a new computer for the house. I would like to get an apple, but I know no one personnally that has one.

Just bought a new laptop with XP Professional. Told the company (Vision Computers in Atl) that we did not want Vista. Apparently neither do many other people! They sell more new PCs with XP than Vista.

I played around on a MAC a little but they seem clunky to me. I am glad they are coming into the marketplace more now. We need good free-market competition.

I have HP with XP Media Center Edition 2005 probalby needed the XP Proffesional but this one was on sale. I have had no problems with XP.

My old Pc a Gateway with Window 98 2nd editon gave me a lot of problems as it got older. I still have it mainly for family pictures and a Pin Ball game that would not set up on the HP ( Bought a new cheap flat screen monitor for it).

I used Windows for 15 years then I bought a Sony Vaio with Vista loaded on it. Never had a problem or a complaint with my old XP machines.

After about a month, the Sony started acting up with Blue Screens of Death (BSOD) and extremely slow performance and this was after I installed Vista's Service Pack One from MS. No improvement.

I'm at Naval Postgraduate School and need a reliable machine that works everyday. Don't know how many times I showed up at class ready to take notes and I would get the BSOD and would have to tinker around with my Sony to get it to start up. Everybody here uses the Mac. So I said to heck with it and went to the Navy Exchange and bought a Macbook.

All I can say is using a computer is fun again. Zero problems and much faster. I downgraded the Sony Vaio to XP and it runs great, so giving it to my wife to replace the aging Del laptop she's currently using.

XP is great--gets the job done. I have it loaded on the Mac using Parallels virtual machine software but I hardly ever use it. With Office for Mac I can do anything (I need to do) that I could do on the PC, but with less hassles.

For anyone in the market for a new computer, check out Apple before you buy. If your worried about compatibility, don't. Stuff done on MS Office for Mac is 100% compatible with MS Office for Windows. The only problem is for those who like to play games on the computer--lots more stuff available on Windows.

Unless Microsoft comes out with an OS as good as XP was, I will stick with Mac from now on. I wouldn't touch Vista with a 10 foot pole. It's buggy, slow, unreliable and doesn't really do anything that you can't do a lot more efficiently with XP.

Going to be purchasing a new laptop at work soon and we will get it with XP so it will be compatible with our server and other 5 computers which are running XP. Heck with Vista. I would be willing to consider a MAC for personal use possibly but must have all compatible equipment at work.

Good luck with getting XP on a new laptop--they're getting hard to find unless you go online. Everything at the big box stores (Best Buy, Circuit City, Wal Mart, etc) are all Vista.

At home, I have XP Pro and Server 2000 SE (I have not upgraded to Server 2k3 yet).

At work, I support and design software for VxWorx, and still support RMX systems. We also have Solaris, and just about every version of Windows NT from NT4 -> Server 2003.

We can not use MAC because we actually need to make money with these systems, and the embeded VxWorx systems are Vital Control Systems (must fail safe).

PC/XP Pro. I'm steering clear of Vista since that was a big fail in my opinion with all the bloatware and huge footprint on disk. I have thought about Mac but I have a hard time with the fact that I really enjoy the flexibility of PC hardware. I have built my own systems for the past 12 years or so and I really enjoy it. I have a love/hate relationship with Microsoft at times but XP Pro has been very good to me overall and is by far the best of any others in the past. Windows is the only OS I know and I've been too lazy to try something new so far. I started with a Commodore 64/128 machine and went from there to windows 3. 1. It will be interesting to see how Windows 7 turns out.

I just replaced my PC with an Apple iMac all in one. I LOVE IT! It is seamless. The programs all run together perfectly. Safari is a great browser. Yes, it cost more, but you don't need 8 jillion kinds of spy ware, mal ware, debug this and that programs. It's a beautiful thing. That said, I have a PC at work that does what it needs to do just fine. But I am now a Mac believer.

PC that i just recently put vista on against all advice. vista was annoying at first but now I'm used to it. Brother has a mac, yuck, can't stand it.

Vision Computers, Inc. - Discount Computer Parts and Components, Laptop Computers, and Electronics They build them to your specifications and offer a choice of Vista or "XP Pro downgrade".

I will NEVER buy another computer at a big box store. All you get there is a big box full of junk.

I know that's true--I bought the Sony Vaio at a big box store and it was nothing but an expensive paper weight most of the time.

This Apple Macbook aboslutely blows the PC laptop away. It always works, never crashes, and 6 hour battery life is awesome!

I'll never be without an Apple computer again!
