Can't wait to hear how the mad/ecm reacts with the 4s and stock turbo

Well, frankly-- it's sickening:) The power/response difference is considerable.

Oddly enough, I find myself blowing more smoke with the catcher than without it

I think this is the "special" so the regular Catcher may be more what we need.

While the cather is a lot of fun, it's also sometimes "nervous. " Like a skittish horse that wants to bolt at the slightest provocation.

The throttle isn't as touchy as I was afraid it would be, but it IS sensitive. Sometimes it annoying, but that's mostly because I pride myself on being a VERY smooth stick shifter, and the learning curve has removed some of my smoothness.

I would consider the Catcher above a Comp or TST for now, but I'm still considering a Comp. I think the Catcher is best as a stand-alone mod. Add some injectors to it and be done. When you add other electronickery (hehe), it's out of its element.

If you want more hp, go with a catcher and MACH SIXES!! hehe.

I'm sure mpg has to be down. I'm using WAY more fuel in daily driving that I was before.

don't let the old camper/puller/snuffdipper fellows on the original CaTCHer thread fool you it does smoke if you don't petal it just right it not only smokes but loses power IMO. I find that if you just floor it the truck acts sick and builds less boost than at say 1/3 throttle slowly rolling onto it.

This is after many apps resets so it is what it is and I feel like It would be a blast on an auto where you can find the sweet spot with the petal and hold it there till it does its thing and you are satisfied.

but with the 6sp and 4. 10s it is hard for me to find that sweet spot after every gear change and I lose the so called "drivability" that it offers I am not satisfied right now for what I spent, over $700 to keep my original ecm, but maybe things will change.

I am hoping bob will reflash me to special if I wanted to

I wish a "regular/ blue chip redline wasn't so high I would like to try that.

I want to do 4s like you next and then wait on SB FE/turbo money

So I would send you my 02 federal 6sd regular catcher to try with the 4s if you want.

what do you say

I want to hear how the 4s do With the catcher+timing. Postage cant be much on a sardine can full of chip boards. let me know probly need to put the old one on to run the 4s if I get them soon to help the stock clutch last. BTW I just put a afe on and it helps at wot I think made the sweet spot bigger and easier to find. I don't know why the stock box shoulda been good enough for stock sticks.

Hohn - Glad to hear you are having fun. I fell off the face for a while but enjoy this thread. As an armchair quarterback, I'd recommend the Comp, wire loose for now. Address things like fuel and clutch and tap that baby. Of course, I have 0 exp with the MADECM but like the on/off of the comp, especially at Wyoming elevations...

Hope things are well in WYO.

Well, I tested out the Catcher for almost a week. I't getting sent back to Bob (thanks, Bob).

I just was never able to get the feel for the catcher as much as i would have liked to. The power delivery and response are second to none, but when you shift as much as I do, smoothness is extremely important, and I couldn't get the Catcher to cooperate.

now that my stock ECM is back in, I can really tell you just how much smoothness you give up with the Catcher. Maybe a better driver would make the adjustment more easily.

To me, it would be a no brainer on an auto transmission, but with my setup, I couldn't get it to play well. On a daily basis, smoothness is what will let your clutch, transmission, and axles last. The catcher just carries too much of a penalty in this area for me to recommend it for manual trannies. Auto transmission guys-- GET A CATCHER!

yes but what did you run on your setup to make up for the lost timing with the "special"

Like I said I am getting ready to go to 4s and would send you the regular catcher with the timing if you want and you can see how it acts. To me it seems specificaly geared towards autos on the high side and sticks with 1. 6s or less so I might look into the special reflash and get a comp to go with it and dangle the wire.

Just glad to see that the 4s perform so well are smooth and drivable with all the power

I followed the catcher thread from say page 60 up to 110 when I finally got one and no one but me and hohn have agreed that it is better suited to an auto! now Im stuck with a 02 only 6speed only box that no one will want.

wish someone would post on how it acts with a bluechip or tst fueling box

I didn't run any timing product (EZ, van aaken, puck, etc). It was just the Catcher Special and my M4s.

The Special made a huge difference in response even without the extra timing that the regular catcher is supposed to have.

I agree that with smaller sticks, it could be a great box for the manual trans guys. With the 4s, it's just a little too much for me.

I just got my 4s in and am not impressed yet. With the stock ecm back in it spools quick and then hits the high boost wall and falls on its face defueling in and out. Its kinda funny you get a surge of power bettween bogging/smoke and full spool=22 lbs. I am going to put my Ppuck back in and see how that does I belive it boost/fools and I can plug the stocker 35 signal port and see how it does like that.

rivercat,

If you are not running any type of boost fooler then yes you will have a huge defueling issue... . Try the injectors with a box that has a boost fooler and I believe you will be much happier!

M4's in

I too swapped the F1 mach 3. 8s for my DD 2's and couldn't be more pleased. I for one don't know how people can get a feel for horsepower gain at the top end but at the bottom end these injectors really shine. My turbo lag is almost non existant and throttle response is right there with the catcher. Smoke is no problem except at the very bottom. Bob Wagner said the 4's were good for about 20 more horse than the 3. 8's. Again that's at top end, at low to mid range rpms where we all drive could anyone tell the differance? DW

I feel SURE that the catcher+the low end added power of the 4s will smoke the stock clutch on the first run so I am awaiting more funds for a FE or twin disk. BoB go a head and post or PM me the fee for a catcher exchange/reflash so I COULD run the catcher+comp or other timing box, after I get a clutch that will hold and a bigger charger.

stick with that catcher and stack a tst of blue chip box

don't you read about the high comp failure rate?

you will also have a higher hp number going that route.

I thought the same thing. When Bob sent me the Catcher for testing, I was expecting instant flames and death for my poor stock clutch. It never happened.

It DID take a serious toll on my poor Michelins though:) I'm sure that my oem clutch would have died had I stuck with the Catcher and M4s for another week or so. But in the ~10 days I had it, no clutch slippage.

I'd go with the FE because the ECM+4 combo has enough low end to make it slip better and makes the FE a lot more driveable than it would otherwise be. The FE can be grabby otherwise--jmo, of course

I've driven one truck with the catcher, had injectors (don't know what kind), pdr 40, edge comp, full DTT. All I can say is SMOKE, with comp on or off. Same truck no catcher half the smoke with comp turned up. If I even blipped the throttle it would let out a puff.

what do those boxes do diffrent from the comp don't they tap the pump?

Bob I love the fueling and spoolup and all the great pros of the catcher but on the flipside, I love using the full motion of my throttle paddle with the catcher It is cut in half. Right now I can run the thin line right before the clutch slips for giggles with small Right foot movments with the catcher I would overcompensate. Its almost like getting out of the truck into an italian sportscar with a superfast steering ratio, the oversteer would be a bore.

The mach 4s smoke plenty at low rpms without additional fuel I only hope that the stock 35 and clutch hold till I can upgrade them.

does everyone with mach 4s get a nice lope/ miss/ stutter at about 1800-1900 rpms sitting out of gear with steady peddle?

Hohn what was it like when you had the unseated crossover/injector?

So rmalone seems like a hx40 is toosmall for all the additional fuel maybe A 64mm s300 varient is in order

I still can't figure out why on my obd2 scan tool the map reading burys at 75"HG or "s of mercury=36. something psi at like 10 psi on my gauge.

never had the MAP out to clean it but this seems like a trick of the boxes, catcher or powerpuck forgot to try it without the puck, just stock ecm.

Is it time for a new version?

Hi gang,

I just stumbled into this thread. Sure enough it's not easy to immagine that in a thread about injectors my toy is discussed. I don't have the time to read each and every thread here on the TDR... so sorry I'm late!

Well, let me get to the point. The CaTCHER is what it is today because that's the way we ( beta testers and me ) wanted it. I've written that software, yet nobody sez that it HAS to remain what it is. In other words, I can change things. That's IF you want me to.

What about a new version with a little less aggressive fuelling down low?

Do you think that could help? Let's talk about it.
