Going to do this clutch thing very soon. I'll need the flywheel resurfaced. Any places west-ish of 494 area?



I'm looking to do a tear down friday night at my buddies, and wanna get the flywheel work done on a saturday (by appointment if possible). get the part back on saturday to put things back together that day and rolling that night.

Not sure about that side of town , Gopher machine might be over there but sure , but I do not think your going to find a machine shop open on saturdays.

That would be right, dropped it off at 10am and had it back by 1pm, no appointment.

Ok, this is good to know. I don't think I'll be traveling from Minnestrista (location of the garage of friend) to Elk river.



But it's good to know napa does these things. Back in Michigan there were a ton of little shops that did good work. As for around here, I dunno of any just yet.

Buddy of mine has all tools needed except for the transmission mount for a floor jack. I was thinking of buying him one in return for helping me out. Found one online for $85 + free shipping.



1: these transmissions are huge compared to cars, would this matter in what I get for a transmission jack in this case? Are there different sizes?



2. Also, this adapter, this would also accomadate the transfer case? or do I expect to seperate these two aswell?

I don't know anything about the trans jack adapter. I've never used one.



As far as the T-case... It's easy to remove, and especially since you are using a floor jack, I'd remove it.

I have one of those that you can borrow if you like. Matt (AlphaCowboy) and I did his last fall with it and it worked out OK. Not as good as a real transmission jack but a LOT better than just a floor jack. We did his with the tcase on the trans. It has a chain that you secure over the top of the trans to keep it from tipping off. It also has an angle adjustment to help with shaft alignment when reassembling. One thing to note is that these adapters add a good amount of height to the jack and thus you can't really get the trans down low to the ground like you can with a real trans jack. This wasn't a big deal since he has a 4 or 5 inch lift on his truck. The trans would not clear the bottom of the truck, but we were able to easily get the job done with the trans under the truck lowered as much as we were able. You could put the front and/or rear of your truck up on blocks for the same effect if desired.

I'm used to doing this kinda thing with the motor and trans outa the car or jeep



I need atleast 2 pay checks and and I'll buy the clutch and then start to set the dates for the install in stone. so in less then a month one month I'll have some time set apart for sure.

I did mine with T-case left on also, made things go pretty smooth. Balance was great when I straped the transmission to the jack. The weight of the T-case was enough so that nothing tipped forward or back. Good luck.

I have not studied this from under the truck yet.....



But I'm assuming there is no way to unbolt the trans/t-case and leave the hydrolics on and just have things turned outa the way and still do the replacement?



Wishing to advoid bleeding the slave cylinder.

hey Jason, I could help out if ya need it... if its a few weeks away. I am busy this friday and saturday, but a few weekends from now I should be aight, I will have to check with the wife though. Get me a date and I will see what I can do.





On the slide hammer, dont see a need for one, no issues on mine.

We didnt need to disconnect the hydrolics either, it just snaps out of the bell housing, so we didnt need to bleed anything. Honestly, it was pretty simple after we got it all apart.



I would recommend 2 sets of wheel ramps though... an extra 6-8" under the truck would be WONDEFUL! also, is this going to take place in a garage? is it heated? not being a *****, but my hands dont work worth a **** when they are cold... . and each year passes, they get worse, the wonderful times of getting old! (and I am only 28 )

I hear ya! I walk like an old man for 2 weeks after doing a transmission on the floor! :{ 27 and I feel like I'm falling appart already!

Hi Jason. This weekend is busy for me too, but the next few Sat's would probably work out - better luck the more we plan in advance. My better half is the master schedule approver and so I'd have to run it past her when we know a date for sure. Friday's would be pretty rough after work and with family time and so on. I think this is best to start bright and early on a Saturday after a good rest.



Geez, you guys, 28 & 27 and feelin old? Man, I feel really old now (39!) . This time of year indoors is almost a must. Let us know what you have available.



So, what ya got in mind for new/resurfaced stuff? Clutch, pressure plate, pilot bearing, throw out bearing, ? It'd be cool to have a flywheel already surfaced + all the new stuff to swap in and get 'er running the same day.

it won't be for a month. I'm planning way ahead!



Yes garage. Brand new house, garage floor, and was painted when it was still warm out! So we will be breaking it in now!.



Heat, Well, I have a 50,000 BTU torpedo heater. My truck straight in and shuting the door may not happen. However, some sort of angle could happen. this is a 3 car garage.



This weekend I'll be assesing my bills and funds for this. I should forsure buy the clutch first weed in feb. with in 2 weeks of that It should ready to install



Bell housing is seperate! ohh this that's sweet. that makes for very simple access to get around the housing and to it's bolts.



I'll have to get under the truck this weekened and look closly at things when it's light out.



Alphacowboy, I'm assuming DLausche fowarded you my PM. Yes, I would love any help from you experience guys to make this as simple as possible.



I'll check with the home owner. Maybe we can make a MNTDR meet outa this? With the main point to atleast get my clutch outa my truck.

actually, I didnt replace the pilot bearing, just the throw out bearing.



On a side note, I do have the flywheel and pressure plate out of my truck, it has some scaring, but could probably be resurfaced ok. If you want, I could bring this one in, have it resurfaced, and if it turns out ok, we could just swap when we drop yours? Mine has a few heat cracks, but nothing to bad according to some other TDR members that looked at it... they said it was pretty normal. Its a little blued... :-laf but like I said, if you want, i will have my local Napa resurface it this next week or so, and then we could just swap... would make it ALOT easier to do in one day!
