Wen't to pass a mini van yesterday and he speeds up. So I step it down. Now theres oncoming traffic. Were at about 85 mph in a 55 zone. I had no choice I cracked the wheel over and off the road he goes. That must of really burned him he starts flashing his headlights at me while he was recovering his composure. Ya I even let him know he was # 1.
Can imagine why there is so much road rage out there. People pull stunts like that. Better expect to pay the consequences.

Don't blame you one bit. I've been known to "take" the lane from people that are playing games on the road.

I had some winner (Money does not = Intelligence) in a BMW that thought it was funny to go slow in the fast lane and then speed up when there was a break in traffic to the right so that I couldn't get around him.

First time was funny. Second time pi$$ed me off. Third time bought him a close-up view of the concrete divider at 80+ mph. He didn't crash, but it wouldn't have hurt my feelings if he had.

I don't know what it is about some people that they have to play games on the road. And at least pick your opponents well, who in their right mind wants to get in a shoving match with a 6-8000 lb vehicle while driving a 3-5000 lb vehicle? Idiots... .

I've noticed this problem quite a bit with our immigrants from south of the boarder. They'll pull out in front of you and drive slow,until you go to pass then they speed up and tailgate you after you get by. Sure is nice to have a big rig that hauls a$$.

I. too have had my share of problems with our southern neighbors. But there are the minivan and SUV crowd. On 287 bentween Loveland and Ft Collins, no one goes the 55 speed limit, or even close. I have no idea how many people I have passed on the right to go 55 or 60. Then they get their panties in a wad over the deal. If you are going to drive slow, move over and let people by you. I have yet to run anyone off the road, but I have told several people they are #1.
My roommate is just as bad. She was going along in the left lane, and a Mexican tried to pass on the right, and she sped up and cut bottlenecked him behind the car in front of her in the right lane. Why she could not just let him pass, I have no idea. I told her that was a good way to get killed, esp in her POS Ranger.

But I also know why people here go so slow- the pigs (my apologies to the swine industry) in uniform have nothing better to do than set up speed traps. They do nothing about the SUV trailling you by 10 feet at 75, or the beemer who cuts you off, and almost causes a 10 car pileup; but dont hesitate to pull you over for doing 60 in a 55, with no other traffic. Why? EGO. Give them a gun and a badge, and they think they are greater than God.

I'd get into a little road rage myself if someone did that to me, lucky he went into the ditch imagine if he had a gun and an attitude...

On the other side, I would never be silly enough to try and get it on with a RAM when its charging LOL #ad

Guys,I am not by any means a saint,but to lose your temper and cool on the highway is like Russian roulette,sooner or later it will kill you. I have seen more than my share of idiots on the road. The smart thing to do is pull over and walk around your truck once,kick the tires and scream. Then get back in your truck and chances are you will never see the idiot again. No one is in that much of a hurry!!!

Once (back in days of semi) I was coming down highway 50 west of Canon City Colo(salida canyon). This idiot in a sports car was doing 70 on the straights and 10 in the corners. I was in a hurry to get home and would pull out to pass him and he would speed up!I would just get next to this idiot and he would look up and grin at me,then stomp on it!I had finally had it and pulled out to pass got up next to him and he looked up to grin,Bam I slid my hands over the steering wheel as if to come over on him. He paniced and went into the ditch. I just kept going and thought good riddance.

A week later a good freind was coming down the same strech of highway and got into a hurry. Passed a car on a stretch of three lane and lost it on the next corner. Rolled his tanker,9000 gals of gas went up. Killed him and his wife who was taking a ride with him that day. They left three kids and some bad memorys. How much of a hurry are they in now?And how much is a few minutes of your time worth?

Since we are on the topic of driving gripes, I might as well add mine.

I don't really care how fast you are wanting to go. If I'm in the left lane I am usually passing someone or am on the way through a city. I know that the left-most lanes go faster than most and I will do as the Romans in these situations, albeit safely. But tailgating me doesn't help. When I get past the car I am trying to pass I will get out of your way. So be patient! And give me enough space so that when I do merge, I haven't merged 2 feet in front of the guy I just passed.

I guess I have two peeves. The second is use of indicators. I have no problem letting people in front of me if they have a turn signal on. But there are those who think they can just weave in and out of traffic and then look at you like it's your problem when they get run over by an 80,000 semi. I know I probably didn't describe this peeve as well. But I know you guys know what I am talking about.

As a side note, are you guys for or against triannual driver re-testing or any form of re-testing of drivers? I would gladly re-test every so often, as I KNOW I would pass.

Jeff, I was just razzing ya, I know exactly how you feel, having gone thru the same situation many times. Just a shame drivers out there are in such a big hurry, life is short, lets enjoy it while we're here.

I'll bet the person in the mini van was of the younger variety #ad
they seem to always be in a hurry, oops I guess I was like that in my younger days as well...

Hey I really like the German way of doing things, the left lane is for passing ONLY, if you are in that lane and not passing, you get a ticket, if someone comes up behind you and flashes their lights, you get out of the way, if you don't you end up getting a ticket. #ad

Canuk,the law in WA state is the same as Germany on roads with 3 or more lanes in each direction.
It seems to work,I've never had to flash my lights in the far left lane,people just get out of the way.

TDCanuck and others, the Germans have made a LAW that you cannot flash your brights to pass!! I was there in summer of 97 and was told that this is now considered bad manners! They have now adopted the Italian method which is to put on your left blinker and leave it on... it makes sense: a turn indicator shows intent, right? if you intend to STAY in the left lane and fly, the flashing yellow can be easily seen in a rear-view mirror! Passing a slower vehicle on the right is mandatory jail; no traffic school, no getting out of points... jail. And, God help you should your vehicle break down or run out of fuel on the autobahn, because the highway patrol wont help you. As captain of your *ship*, it is your responsibility to make sure that you have adequate fuel and your vehicle is in proper working order. Done, end of game... no excuses. The British are a little more lax is some respects. The national speed limit on the major motorways is 70mph... now, you can do 85 past a cop and not get a ticket as long as you are *polite* in doing so. Weaving in and out of traffic is very naughty. One English friend gave me a for-instance: "say it's 3:30am on Tuesday and you're the only car on the highway for 20miles in either direction. You are doing the speed limit and pass a cop hiding in the bushes. You will get a MAJOR fine if you are in ANY LANE other than the slowest travel lane! Reason: you are not passing, nor are you an emergency vehicle... therefore you have absolutely NO BUSINESS being in any other lane!" The English and their etiquette! It sure makes sense, and would save a lot of grief here!!

I agree that the guy that started this thread probably deserved it, but please be careful. I had a similar thing happen to me. I had her dumb a$$ almost off of the road before I saw at least two kids STANDING in the floor. If I had run her off of the road and she had wrecked the kids would have been hurt bad, if not killed. I personally believe that if you have an accident and you have kids in your vehicle that are not properly restrained and they get killed that YOU should be charged with 1st degree murder, but we cannot control what people around us do all of the time. Made me think.

I will certainly admit that I have done some truly stupid things while driving. It seems that I get caught in the "I'm not going to take that kind of stuff from him/her", or "Dang people asleep at the wheel, just camping out next to the car in the right lane", etc.

I would absolutely LOVE to have the police enforce the whole slower traffic keep right issue. It's extremely frustrating to get stuck behind some person that is pi$$ing along in the left lane at the same speed as the car in the right lane. If they're going to drive the same speed then stay behind the other car. I'm not saying it's right, but I do understand where some of the aggressive driving comes from.

As I have gotten older I have calmed down as we all do I guess and I don't have to count to 10 anywhere near as often as I used to when I'm on the road.

Like I said, I don't blame anyone for their actions because I can't say I wouldn't have done the same thing, but please be careful out there.

I'd be all for re-testing drivers if it would make the streets safer. I believe that driving is not a right it is a privilege and should not be granted to just everyone. My personal belief (since you asked #ad
) is that ALL drivers should have to pass the written portion of the CDL test as well as a driving test that is much more thorough than the one used now. I think we give out drivers licenses FAR FAR too frequently here.

My personal favorite is tailgaters on regular city streets... If I am doing 35 or so, and there is some prick with his hood up my *** , I shift UP into 5th, press the GO pedal, and leave him in a thick, carcinogenic, black blanket of diesel love. So much he has to slow down and let it clear so he can see again. By that time, I am doing 60-plus, telling him he is #1 from a distance!
