I am getting ready to change the diff. lube on my rig and have been toying with the idea to putting a Mag High Tech Diff Cover on when I do the lube change.

Question - is the Mag High Tech Diff Cover worth the money (other than looks)? I do tow a heavy 5 er fairly often (like 50% of total miles on rig) so would the extra lube capacity of the Mag High Tech help ? Would the Mag High Tech cover give the Dealer a reason to void the warrenty? Has anyone had their warrenty revoked because of the Mag High Tech Diff Cover ?

It sure makes changing the lube a lot easier, as well as checking the level/condition and the magnetic dipstick is nice too for holding those metal particles. I would also say that it definitely reduces the temp by its design. I dont know that for sure but I have never had the temp go over 188 since I put the cover on and that was towing about 6000lb in the middle of summer As far as warranty voiding don't see how they can void it for a cover but I suppose it is possible.

I'm doing it. I'm just waiting for them to call and tell me the cover is in! Cover is costing me $235 plus synthetic fluid costs (amsoil) and labor. I'm doing it because of concern pulling a heavy load. Better safe than sorry.

Be sure and check the clearance between the spare tire and cover when the truck is loaded; I had to shift my spare to the rear and strap it to the trailer hitch to hold it in that position. This may not be nescessary with a Dana 70, but you will want to check.

And Dont forget the Mag-Hytec Dana 60 Front diff cover will be out very soon. I called and got on Piers waiting list, so I know I am gonna get mine.

Thanks for the input guys.

JPOLSTON - You mentioned the Dana 70 for clearance purposes. However, (and pardon my ignorance) I believe that my 2001. 5 has the Dana 80 diff even though it is a 2 WD instead of 4X4. Am I mistaken? Regardless, I will be sure to check the clearance to the rear tire when loaded.

BIGMIKE - I see by your signature that you finally bit the bullet and acquired a 5er - congrats. Hope you enjoy yours as much and we enjoy ours.

PUFF - Not only does the Diff. Cover looks good, but the whole outfit looks sharp from the rear.
