Anyone using the Mag Hy-Tec Front cover? I just installed one on the rear after my rear end rebuild, just wondering, they sure look good, I was going to convert my front over to full synthetic gear oil as well. Do you have to use the "Mopar" limited slip addittive in the front diff as well?

Amsoil is what I use in my 600+hp 2006. Used it in my 93, 02, 03, and this 06. Check it out here.

Also, it is VERY rare that any slip lock is needed with this fluid.

The front is open, not limited slip. No additive necessary. I say put all that $$$$ into something else on the truck... or in the fuel tank.

Only reason I was even thinking about it is because the prior owner towed either waaay to heavy and low on gear oil or just low on gear oil, I dunno, but it just cost me 865. 00 to rebuild the rear(me doing it myself--brakes included in price), so I added a cover with the added fluid capacity, I hope I never have to revisit, maybe my son but not me I hope, I just like the extra capacity, not to mention they look good.

I think Bill's point was that the front diff does nothing in most cases... I know my truck is in 2wd with the hubs unlocked for the vast majority of the time. Mag-Hytec in the rear... sure, the rear could use the help, especially if you tow, have high HP, mud bog, or beat on it in some other fashion. I'm with Bill, don't bother with a Mag-Hytec for the front... it won't benefit from one like the rear will.

You read my mind.

Save up the money for the new springs or new radio. :)

Don't forget to grease the front driveshaft. There is a double cardan joint coming out the transfer case and some will have 3 grease zerks (2 u-joints & the ball).

Brian
