Would you go with a 5.9 HO or 6.7?

what are the advantages of this pan and does it really lower transmission temps and by how much. I tow 16K fifth wheel with my 07. 5 with dpf delete and smarty on 60 hpOo.

Marc,

I installed one and moved my temp probe at the same time, so I can't accurately say what happened to the temperature. I didn't have a problem with the transmission temperature before or after. I don't think any temp change will be significant.

Besides an increased fluid capacity (1/2 quart with their normal pan and 4 quarts with their double deep pan), the biggest advantage to me is the nice no-leak drain plug built in. This makes fluid changes a whole lot more pleasant.

On top of that they sure look great, have a lifetime warranty, and they're still made in the USA!

I seriously doubt the fins alone make a significant difference in heat. The volume seems to me like it would be more of a factor. Don't have a good reference pre and post however.

The fins aren't real deep but when you put it all together, aluminum heat transfer, fins, more real estate hitting the moving air and the massive addition of fluid sitting there getting this advantage, I would have to say it's a lot better than the stock pan.

I too have a deep pan. I don't know if it made any difference, I do have a guage in the hot line out to the cooler, but didn't notice any change. The extra fuild volume will help delay the time it takes to get hot, but on the flip side, then you have that much more fuild volume to get cooled down once it is hot also. Ditto on the drain plug for ease.

I too have a Mag-Hytec transmission oil pan along with gauges for the transmission, EGT and Boost. I had the gauges installed before I put the Mag-Hytec pan on the transmission. The probe for the gauge was mounted on the output line of the transmission with a Acu Temp Adapter from Geno's Garage. Geno's advertise that there is a 30 deg difference in temperature between the oil in the pan and the reading from the adapter. The adapter reading will be cooler per Geno's advertising.

When towing I would easily reach 200 to 220 F with this setup.

I then installed the Mag-Hytec pan and relocated the probe into the transmission pan. With this set up I usually see 180F when towing on the same terrain.

I am happy with the pan and in it's ability to add additional cooling over the cooler. Along with the ability to hold an additional 2 1/2 to 3 quarts of more oil. This additional oil will also aid in the suspension of debris in the oil before being filter out by the filters.

It has worked for me. per the stock transmission sensor it reads around 10-15 deg cooler while towing, and little higher drop when empty.

My buddy who lives in Illinois noticed about the same temp drops.

mine used to hit 200-210 while towing out west in the summer pretty easy. now, not so much.

works for me.
