Mag-Hytec 727-DD install

I wanted more fluid capacity, so I got a 727-DD cast trans pan...



It comes with a "fiber" gasket that doesn't appear to be as high quality as the stock "overmolded" gasket on my 2003.



Does it matter which gasket I use? I'm leaning towards the stock one because it seems to be much higher quality.



Also, just to confirm... the 727-DD holds 4 more quarts than my stock 2003 stamped steel pan, right?

Most trucks can use the oem gasket once in a while there will be one that just won't fit 100 percent with the DD. The gasket that ships with the DD will work every time and is better than it looks at first glance

I'll go OEM every time. I have the M-H normal capacity pan (actually, I think it increases capacity a little) that I use with the stock/OEM gasket. I have dropped it twice for filter replacement and haven't had nary a leak yet. Not to say the one that came with the pan wouldn't work every time too, but these are my findings.

According to the manufacturer, the thinner gasket is supplied to help accomodate the extra thickness of the cast aluminum pan flange. Using the OEM (thick) gasket may not allow enough of the mounting bolt threads to securely hold the M-H pan. That is, according to our information from the mfg. , the reason for the fiber gasket.



On the other hand, I have personally spoken to a number of people who have used the OEM gasket without any problems.



We, at Geno's Garage, always default to the mfg. 's information supplied for their specific products.

My pan came with new, longer allen bolts, IIRC. Four years later, still no leaks. (Knocking on wood. )

Yes, the Mag-Hytec pans do come with mounting hardware, AND a flat, fiber gasket. Using the items supplied by the manufacturer to mount, and seal, the pan should result in a leak-free installation.
