Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Mag-Hytec and magnet

A few years ago I changed out my trans. pan to the aluminum Mag-Hytec. I did not reinstall the factory magnet as it was not compatible with aluminum. I have given some thought about cutting a piece of sheet metal and using epoxy to hold the sheet metal for the magnet. Doing it this way would allow removal of the magnet for cleaning. Thoughts on this process ?. Any one recommend the epoxy to use that would hold up to the heat, fluid, and hold the sheet metal to the aluminum. First thought was JB Weld.

If your insistent on doing something like that I would look into having something Tig welded on to the cover, but even that could be risky. It would have to be a slow process, to much heat to quick could possibly warp the cover or the heat could transger through and leave "streaks" on the outside. I personally wouldnt trust any type of jb weld or epoxy, if it were to come loose could do some damage...

Dont they have magnetic plugs or something to that effect?

If you know the thread size you could just about get one anywhere I would think. Im guessing theyre a pipethread?? I replaced the fill plug in my front diff cover a while back and it was 1/2" npt.

I just looked at their pans and it lists the plug as magnetic. To tell the truth I really do not know if I have one or not. It has been installed for several years and the truck does not accumulate a lot of mileage. After all it is a 99 with 80k on it. Guess I will have to wait till I drain the trans and see. I do not know if the magnetic drains are only on the newer pans or if they all have them.

That is good news. I would have to look it up but I think it was 04/05 that I put it on. Thanks for the info.
