Mag Hytec DD trans pan/fluid change/bands.

Getting ready to do my first trans fluid change on 2001 2500 4x4 with the 47RE. I also plan on going with the Mag Hytec DD pan at this time too. Change will be just short of 30K ( very little towing and only sporatic heavy hauling in 30K)



Is there anything/tricks I should know when doing the Bands, filter/ pan? How much Fluid sould go back in ( I'm just doing fluid and filter with AMsoil UNiveral). I think the DD pan adds about 1. 5 extra quarts (?) how many total for the change? If you have total for the stock thats fine, I can figure the rest out.



Also I was under the truck today looking for the front band adjust screw. It looks like it is kinda behind a linkage. WHen the linkage is in "Normal" position I cant get the torque wrench on the adjust, but when I pull the linkage back I can. Is this normal/OK? Any tricks for this? I have a shop manual so I have all the specs but they dont give "tips" for the job.



ALso what size torxs head is the front band screw? Is the back band screw torxs or something other? ANy other comments, good or bad, about the pan/job or anything else please let me know.



Its acutally 4 extra quarts for the DD pan per Genos.

Just changed fluid in mine with the Mag-Hytec pan, drain plug states "tighten to 30" pounds, I did this, but I must not have had the allen head socket in completely as it stripped out (not the plug, but the part the allen head goes into) so be careful.



As far as the bands - I follow DTT Bill Kondolays instruction using a 1/4" allen wrench gap, work great so far.

Upon closer inspection of mine the drain plug is a torx head as well. Had to look kind of close.

I purchased a Mag-Hytec "Deep" pan for my Ram as soon as they were released for sale... back in 1998.



Since then, they came out with the "Double Deep" version, which I ordered before they were even out on the market. Having had both, I prefer the "Double Deep" version.



With that, I can tell you that the drain plug in both of my Mag-Hytec transmission pans used an internal hex head style plug. That isn't to say they didn't change the plug style, it's just to let everyone know that they should look closely!



In other words, pay attention!



Also, the torque for all Mag-Hytec drain plugs has been changed (from the original specs. ) or remains (in the case of later installation instructions) at:



30 INCH pounds!

Glad somebody else caught that. I recently installed a DD mag trans pan on my '03 47RE. Went incredibly smooth, and I didn't end up taking a fluid bath.

Glad I did a double take on the 30" figure to make sure I didn't strip it. I later added the fluid and not a drop leaking so far. Next is the temp gauge, along with a couple others. Just gotta say what a quality product the MH pans are.

p. s. how many quarts did you guys add? Initially I put in 8 and it checked low, not even to the grid on the stick. Added another, same thing. Finally put nearly another full quart to get a full reading... (all the time checking a hot engine running in neutral on a level surface. )

Where did that last quart go? ;-)

I didn't touch the bands or drain the TC.

17 quarts with DD Pan on mine including TC.
