Doing the Mag- Hytec Pan for my 68 RFE on Sunday. I just bought the fluid for it. Truck has 5K on it. . a drain and fill of new fluid is weird i know, but the place I am going to do it at has a lift and a recycle catch so I have to use new oil. . also any new metal is drained out... Usually do my repairs outside in my driveway but it is 20 deg. outside right now so I go here. .

Will take a couple pics with the truck on the lift and post here later.

Remember the Mag-Hytec pan will require additional fluid, I used 9. 5 Quarts to fill the trans and pan. When I put on my new pan I also changed both filters. There is a spin on filter inside the pan along with the normal trans filter.

When changing the spin on filter there is an o-ring that needs to be replace also. This is include with the spin on filter.

Good luck.

Thanks for the Fluid amount. . I was guessing as my Manual don't say how much the transmission holds. . had bought 8 quarts... just picked up 2 more tonight...

My truck only has 5K on it so I think I will just change the high flow filter that came with the pan. Not going to go the whole 60K on the fluid as recommended... . maybe 20 or 30K or so. . will evaluate after a couple summers of towing.

Well here it is. . all done. No real suprises or problems... The pan tilted down on the Driver side rear to empty. . came loose pretty easy. Sure was good to have a 4 post lift. Pic of lift without truck on it. I Used Black RTV Gasket maker on both sides of the fiber gasket to help it seal better. . so far, so good.

Poured 9. 5 quarts in the tube and it seems to be pretty close to where it should be when it is warm but not hot.

Did the sure-flo valve for the Oil Drain. The oil splattered when the plug was opened... comes out too fast. This new valve slows it down a little.

Thanks for the post. I'm right behind you with the same upgrade. However, my garage is a mud bog in front of a barn; so she'll have to wait til it's dry out.

Thats why I am so grateful for this shop. . It can be downright nasty outside, and in here, I have access to all the tools and equipment I need. . I can even buy my own tires from a warehouse, haul them here and mount and balance them myself. !!

I have always dome my maintainance in the driveway but now with this shop, if it is hot or if I need a 4 post lift, I will come here.

Nice shop to work in for sure. Is that only in Salt Lake or do they have franchises all over the US yet? I would def be interested.

The mag-hytec pan has a port already in it with a plug. . It is on the rear of the pan above the crossmember. So if I want to put in a sender, I just do a quick swap with the plug and sender. . Might lose a pint if I'm quick. . Have extra fluid on hand. . Can't really see the port but it is on the side just above the second bolt down on the ride side of the pic. . barely see a little protrusion.

Maghitec gasket

Eric or anyone else who upgraded to the larger pan-

Did you use the gasket that was supplied with the new pan or did you get a different kind? The reason I'm asking 'cause I had the new pan put in with the gasket that came with it and had a very small leak (don't like leaks). I took it back to the dealer and replaced it with the same gasket and leaked again. Finally, I had the dealer look at it and retourqed the bolts and so far so good. Is there a better quality gasket out there?

thanks-

frank

I installed my Mag-Hytec pan in Mar 09, it has never had a leak. I installed this with the gasket that came with the new pan and torqued the bolts per the instructions provided. After 100 miles I rechecked the torque on the bolts and they were still tight. I always recheck bolt torque on Al to insure that it is still tight.

Remember to use the static torque for checking not dynamic torque. Static torque is always a lower torque value then the dynamic torque.

My bolts would loosen up on my Mag Hytec on the '98. 5 unless I used threadlocker. Eric, you'll love the Fumotu oil change valve. Mine makes oil changes so much more controllable and collection of oil samples midstream are a breeze.

Had that valve on my '01. . loved it so when I got the new truck. that was one of the first things I bought.

I used black RTV on both sides of the gasket for this. When I tightened the bolts, I went around the pattern twice and I might have done it a little too tight so now it should be perfect... No leaks right now.
