Mines a rust farm, do you use like rust-o-leum or something to paint everything black again? Or just some black spray paint?

That was when the truck had less than 300 miles on it. I don't plan on painting it again, but I've been known to get under there with a sponge and some soap & water. :D

Was everybody's truck less clean from the dealer?

WARNING

One word of warning for you guys contemplating any after market front diff cover... I don't know if the 2002's are drastically different than the 2001's, but when I tried my MagView front cover, the OEM track bar hit the top of the cover on hard bumps.

The picture shows where I tried to aleviate the problem with my drill grind stone, but it didn't matter.

The only way you can safely put an aftermarket front cover on is to put a 4" or higher lift on the 2001 trucks. My 2 1/2" lift still isn't enough... .

I have also tried a MagHytech cover, and it hits the track bar also, but in a slightly different place.

My 01 with 2. 5 inch rancho lift clears the maghytec just fine.

Phil, do you still have the OEM track bar, or one of the after market ones? I don't know if the OEM track bar and my Skyjacker lift would clear, but the DT track bar sure doesn't, that's why I said I think you'd need at least a 4" lift to clear the track bar.

Tom, did your lift move the bump stops farther away or replace them with longer ones? I am going to get a spring spacer for the ffront of mine and put a spacer under the stock bump stop so I can install my Mag-Hytec with my Linstead trac bar.

The Linstead is 3/4" longer (toward the cover) than the stock bar. I thought I saw that a Lukes Link was the same (I have one coming to me now). A 1" bump stop spacer ought to give enough clearance.

Extreme, My Skyjacker kit did come with new bump stops. I believe they are in the stock location, and I do think they might be a bit longer than the stock ones, though I didn't eyeball them next to each other to say for certain.

I wire brushed the shaft, applied a rust converter called Ras -O-Nil (it comes under another name now) and applied a coat of Zero Rust (both from www.autobody.com) that I had because I am restoring some other stuff. Zero Rust is supposed to be really good and it is repairable down the road. I didn't use Rust-Oleum because I find that is a little too soft. There is some other stuff that I used to coat the underside of my lawnmower deck - it's called POR 15. I didn't use it because it is a 2 part so it doesn't come in an aerosol and I was a little on the lazy side and didn't want to have to mix, set up my spray equipment and clean up. But that stuff sticks like glue - the instructions say if you don't clean it up while it it is wet you're going to be wearing it for a while and they aren't kidding. The only draw back with it is that it needs a top coat for UV protection - not that the belly of my truck is going to see daylight - I hope!
