So I'm looking to replace the rear diff cover as the current one leaks and I'm all about adding logevity to my RAM.

Other than $35 why would the Mag View be better than the Mag Hytec? Is there any real difference between them?

Which one do you guys think is better?

Also... how much did the rear end fluid cost when you put on your new diff cap?

This topic was thrashed recently. Check the archives for lots of opinions. Most of the responders to the old threads have Mag Hytec covers and like them. A few have tried the Magview and reported on them.

ok... thanks!

This is one of the original Magview covers. They were called MagnaGuard at that time. I bought this one in '96. They were originally available in Polished Aluminum. I have yet to see a nicer rear end cover. The salesman told me they would tarnish quickly. (I think thats why they discontinued the bare aluminum). I bought 2 cans of Krylon Clear and spayed it good. Almost 5 years and its still in good shape. I live in the salt belt too. Upgaded the fasteners with stainless steel a few years ago.

Keep in mind the rear end & Cover are dirty in this picture. You should see it clean and the axle freshly sprayed with black rustproofing. #ad

Mag hytec hands down! More features altho both are good. I have not regretted spending the few xtra $ and it has been great.

I've gone with the magtech.
Primary reasons I went for the magtech were for the magnetic dipstick, milled aluminum, o'ring seal, heat dissipating fins, port for a standard temp sensor.
I also got the transmission pan.
Both are excellent in finish, fit and function.

I also went with the Mag-Hytec and was very impressed with the quality. The one thing that I questioned was the location of the sender. It is on top, and out of the oil (at least I thought). Roy (of Mag-Hytec)informed me that a great deal of testing was done on both the Dana 70's and 80's using two temperature probes and a switch (one mounted on top of the cover and the other mounted on the bottom). Not only is a top mounted sender located out of the way from ice, mud, and brush, but it was shown that on hard pulls it actually reads 15-degrees higher than a bottom mount due to the hot ring gear throwing oil on the sender. Thanks for the info Roy, and I hope that I didn't mis-quote.

I got the magview--don't need a dipstick cuz you can see the fluid level and the magnets and they come in different colors--either way they're both good products--IMO--chris
