I am happy with the Mag Hytec. I have used one for several year and have put them on others' Rams and everyone has been satisfied. Being cautious and unlucky, I put silicone RTV on the cover in addition to the o-ring. Roy shook his head when I told him that, but I have not had any leaks. Last time I took it off, I left the o ring off and just used RTV. I like the 1/2" thick cover for strength too, and wonder what would happen if I backed into a rock while 4 wheeling and hit a cover with a sight glass on the glass part. I have not seen the Magview close up so can't comment on it directly.

Joe, if you backed into a rock, the stock steel cover would dent, the Magview and Mag Hytec would probably crack just like a trans case or tailstock.

Biggest advantage is added oil capacity.
But I haven't had a lick of problems with the stock setup. Maybe I'm just lucky but I can think of many things to spend 200 on other than a fancy cover for the differential.

I pretty much agree with what you are saying. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Not having the drain plug in the stock cover was the tie breaker for me. Every 30k I can now just drain and fill (I keep my vehicles forever). All the other goodies on the Mag-Hytek were just iceing on the cake.

I originally was concerned about backing into a rock too. However, if I hit a rock that tall, I don't believe the stocker would survive either. Besides, now I have a spare for that kind of emergency.

MAG-HYTEC ALL THE WAY!!... . no comparison to any other cover can be made. It is the highest quality and highest precision, period. Worth every penny.

I too, removed the o-ring (I have the infamous stamping marks which caused a slight seep of oil and didn't feel like filing on the sealing surface), and use high temp Ulta Copper Permatex silicone w/ no gasket. Works like a charm.

True, the stock cover would dent, but probably hit the ring gear and get chewed badly. Maybe the Mag would crack and I could just glue it together with RTV #ad
The Mag Hytec is pretty tough but I haven't had the nerve to try it against a big rock #ad
They are coming out with a cover for the front diff but right now I have a HD skid plate/deflector made for the stock front cover and would hate to give it up; gotta wait and see what their front cover looks like.

The mag -view looks well built, But my mag -hytec looks COOL!!!!!!!

I think looks would be the only difference.

Question: Why does it have a fancy o-ring, when you never need to take it off again because you have a drain plug?

I say drop the o-ring, save us $50 in machine work!

Joe, it probably looks alot like the rear, only smaller. LOL

Seriously though, I just installed the Mag-Hytec on my rear diff and trans pan. Followed directions regarding stamp marks/black RTV, and no leaks. Only been a couple of days so no long term results yet. However I'm very happy with the fit and finish. No complaints here.
