I just installed a Mag-Hytek deep pan on the trans in my 06 and decided to change the trans fluid at the same time even though I only had 10 K on the truck. I decided to do a complete flush using the trans pump as has been previously described and all went reasonably well.

Initial step was to drain the pan so I disconnected the return line from cooler, added a clear tube to the end and fed the tube into a clear gallon jug. My SO started the warmed up truck in neutral and my intent was to shut down when fluid flow sputtered. The tube didn't fit well over the flared end of the return line, and I had some spillage but the gallon jug filled nice and slow, I shut down to change jugs and got about 6 quarts total out before sputtering. The removed pan had some oil left in it and drippage from the underside of the pan probably added another quart. One bolt on the pan was tight to remove all the way, the rest came out easily.

I removed the filter, added the MH spacer and new filter. A long skinny Torx driver is needed to install the screws through the spacer block back into the trans. No torque is specified so I snugged the filter screws up with a 1/4 drive rachet.

The pan went on easily. I poured 8 quarts of Redline C+ATF into the sump. With the help of my SO, we started the truck in neutral, filled another gallon jug, shut down, added 4 quarts, restarted to fill a third gallon jug, shut er down and filled the remaining of the 18 quarts I had purchased. The third jug brought the total dumped to about 14 quarts which I felt was what was in the transmission but I have seen as much as 17 quart capacity listed. Well, I must have filled the jugs beyond just 4 quarts and I must have spilt a decent bit because a check of fluid level after everything was buttoned up, brought back to temp and run at idle in neutral, showed 2 to 3 quarts down. So it took 21 quarts to do the full change which is the 17 capacity plus the additional 4 that the new pan holds. As well, I may have noticed a slight lightening of fluid colour right at the end although the 10 K old fluid was still a reasonably bright red. All in all, not a very tough fluid change to perform.

I decided on the full flush because I didn't like the idea of changing only half the fluid. After the next change with just a pan dump, a quarter of the fluid would still be the original. I decided on Redline because they were the only ones that specifically identified meeting the Chrysler MS spec and I wasn't quite comfortable with a universal fluid when the big three can't agree between Mercon, Dextron and ATF+4.

The other nice thing about the deep pan is that I can be down a quart and still have 3 quarts more than the original pan although this defeats some of the benefit of the deep pan.
