I ordered my Mag-Hytec today for my rear diff. :D

This cover has place to put a temp. sensor, Has anyone done this. I am looking some guidance as to what type of sensor you used. Is it the same as a transmission temp sensor?

Even if I don't get a guage right away for it, I would at least like to put the probe in before I fill the diff so I won't have to drain the rearend later.

Hey Kevin, yes its the same sender as a transmission temp sender and i would not worry about putting the sender in before you mount the cover. Mainly because gear lube is so thick, when you do get around to wanting to buy a gauge for rear end temp, get under your truck with the sender teflon taped and ready to install in one hand, then take the plug out with the other hand and just quickly put the sender in the hole and tighten it. You will lose less then a shot glass of gear oil which you can put right back in again through the fill cap. I have done this before, its easy.

Funny, my sender port is on the top of my cover for the Dana 80.

Wonder why yours would be somewhere else. Perhaps you have a different style??

Wouldnt you think the sender could get a better reading on the bottom? ( thats where the lube is )

we'll see when mine comes in.

Mactruck, I installed my SPA rear end temp. sender in my Mag-Hytec diff. cover several months ago. There are two reasons Roy of Mag-Hytec designed the temp. sender port in the location provided (on top as shown in the pic provided by Texas Diesel), 1) it will register the hottest temps. as this is precisely where the gear oil exits the ring and pinion gear teeth (after having been heated as a result of work) and 2) the sender is mounted up out of harms way.

The rear end is sort of like a kid in a bath tub. There is so much sloshing around there is more water on the floor than in the tub. The lube goes everywhere. :p

I thought that you don't want to use teflon tape on a sensor that needs to be grounded

I put a little antiseeze on my electronic sensors and no leaks yet.

Just had a bearing seizure because of low oil, could have helped to have a temp gauge. But what should normal temp be and has anyone ever added a cooler.

thanks
