Magnesium In Heads?

Anyone know if the heads on a 24v have any Magnesium in them? Heard or read somewhere that they do but can't remember where.

I know that the valve covers in the later years are in fact magnesium, not sure on the head.

No, you're not. Was just ribbing Bob a little about a thread on the NWBombers site where there was a rather large discussion on what the valve covers were made of. Since I have nothing to add to this thread, I will bow out now... .

Is'nt Magnesium tough to machine? I think it's the metal that will catch on fire and you need a special fire extingusher to put it out.

This is true bit it should only be present in very small quantities in a cast iron head. Not enough to worry about when machining, unless I'm missing something?

Worried about using a Coolant Surfactant (additive) from Racing - like "Water Wetter" or Chill Out" which should not be used with Mag heads? These are great products in our summer heat for controlling coolant overheating, if uasble. (See thread on 24v Eng & Trans Section).

That will not be a problem with your cast iron head. I had a bad experience with a similar product slimeing my coolant system and pluggin my heater core however. Needless to say I am not a fan.
