MagView front diff cover problems...

Hi all,



I installed MagView differential covers last week on both front and rear differsntials. Today on the way home from the Tulare, CA DEPO Diesel fest, I hit a few minor bumps on the freeway, and it felt like the front end was bottoming out. When I got home I found the part of the track bar where the one zerk fitting in the track bar is, was hitting the corner of the MagView cover, and had severly dented a part of it.



Has anyone else had this problem, and what can be done about it, other than removing the MagView cover??? Maybe I need the DT trak bar???



[edit] My truck is totally stock with respect to leveling or lift kits.

I was looking for a front cover and would like to hear what your conversation is about. I've been holding out for a Maghytech, but it doesnt seem to be happening.

It would be great if you could post a summary of the problem with the magview

Ok, I haven't called Brandon as yet, but here's a more detailed explanation of what's happening.



On my 2001 4x4 (don't know if other model years have same problem or not) one end of the track bar where the single zerk grease fitting is, is extremely close to the MagView cover when the truck is just sitting still. Maybe 1/2" clearance. Well, if you hit a big enough bump, the front end of the truck can and does come down low enough to actually contact the MagView cover. If you looked at a MagView cover, there are "fins" every couple of inches around it that as far as I can tell, just add rigidity and support for the cover, I don't think they are intended as cooling fins like those of the Mag-Hytec covers. Anyway, the track bar end, and it looks like specifically the zerk fitting itself, slams into this fin, and actually takes chunks of the aluminum out of it! I spent a while with a drill and grinding stone under there last night, and ground as much of that fin off as I could, but this morning coming into work, I felt it hit again.



I know Chris Sutton had the same problem with his front diff MagView cover, but I had thought it was because he said the lift kit he has came with a different track bar bracket that moved the track bar into a position where it came into contact with the MagView cover. I also know he has installed the DT track bar, so I thought maybe that would eliminate this nasty problem. Maybe it will, don't know yet... .



If I remember to take a couple digital pictures of my MagView cover, I'll post them so everyone can see what I am talking about.

Tom-what type of lift do you have? I changed mine out like you said due to the skyjacker lift--chris

Chris, I have the Dana 70 diff cover on the front, as several TDR members responded to a post I made asking which Dana differential my truck has on the front. They said it actually has a Dana 60, but the 60 and 70 have the same cover. It fits perfectly, just has no clearance for the track bar.

Ok, here is a picture of the track bar hitting the top of the MagView. I don't have a software program that I can draw the nice little arrows in this picture to point out exactly what I'm talking about.



I am NOT talking about the track bar that is right in front of the cover, that part does not touch the MagView. Look in the very top of the picture, in the middle, where the zerk fitting is, and you'll see where that part of the track bar is hitting the MagView.



I've actually ground off as much of the MagView in this area that I can with a drill bit grind stone, but the track bar did some serious damage to the MagView in that same area.
