Your dart has great taste. My wife and I have been going to Maine for years. Depends on what you're into. The southern coast of Maine is really touristy and crowded, as you'd imagine any vacation spot is. The further north you go, the less crowded it gets. But if you like the beach and all that, then by all means give it a try. The Lake Sebago area is a bit further up and is also nice. It fills up fast, too. If you're into hiking and more remote wilderness areas try norther Maine near Baxter State Park. We've been going up there for about 8 years now. The town of Millinockett is at the southern entrance to the park and the Northern entrance is near the town of Mt. Chase. Should you chose you can spend quite some time climbing the peaks in Baxter State Park. There are many, but Mt. Katahdin is the most famous and the tallest in Maine at 5267ft. It's a beautiful area but way up there. Tons of stuff to do in Maine.
