OK,

All you backyard mechanics out there (who love working on their truck, like me :) ) must keep your maintenance records somewhere.

I would like to find a "log book" to keep mine in, along with my receipts in a separate file for warranty purposes.

Just wondering what others use to log their maintenance, and or keep their receipts, and where can I get a log book?

Thanx,

Joe

Joe:

I use a file folder for my reciepts and attach any notes to the receipt that I feel are pertinent. I used to use a spiral notebook to keep track of everything then I switched to an excel spreadsheet which I must say I let go. Member Illflem in a similar thread a while back mentioned a software program that I checked into and it is pretty cool. It lets you track everything probably more than most people want but you only need to use the parts you want. To top it off it is free at least up to 3 vehicles. Go to www.kjon.com to check it out it is very comprehensive.

I made up a log sheet on the computer and then printed out several copy's that I put in a 3 ring binder. The binder has pockets on the front and rear cover. I use the front pocket for merchandise receipts and the rear for any service paperwork from my dealer.

I also use a three ring binder. I put the original window sticker inside the cover sleeve and I divided the binder in two parts, the first part I keep receipts and log all the maintenance I do. The second I have reference materials I found and printed off the web for stuff like coolant change, oil change, injector change ;) , etc.

I use a 3X5 ruled index card booklet for keeping mileage and maintenence using miles, date, gallons, mpg, notes as headings. I keep the service receipts in 4X9 envelope and ins. card/reg in another envelope in glove box. A folder in the door area holds info related to the truck and Cummins I find interesting and/or educational i. e. filter #'s,how to 's, etc.

I carefully file every receipt I get for everything from oil to diesel. I keep a detailed record of every fuel up I make. And I keep a detailed spreadsheet with every maintenance item or upgrade or replacement I make. Finally, I note in the factory-supplied maintenance logbook what services I perform and the mileage and engine hours.

Ditto for me too...

After I fuel up and if my girlfriend is with me, she always  when I pull the truck ahead and write down the "details" on the receipt for logging later!
