Maintenance logs?

i have a small spiral bound notebook for my truck that i call myself tracking maintenance. now that the wife has one too i thought i could step up to some formal type of maintenance log. a search online produced lots of software for sale, but not many real books i can keep in the trucks. what are ya'll using?

I have a 8x5, 3 ring binder, with an old day planner inside. The columns on the expense sheets worked out for a fuel/price per gal/mileage/total price log. I also have part numbers and oil/lube info. It's always in the truck and I've used it for every fill up since I bought my 90, in 1994.



It not only allows me to keep track of fuel mileage, but it also allows me to cry like a baby when I look back and see that I used to fill up for such a small amount of money. :{

Here is a free program well it is free for 3 or fewer vehicles anyway if you download and 15 for a cd. Up to seven vehicles is about 25 and it goes up from there. I have used it in the past and it works well.

Free travel and auto expense booklet

Mine is ~ 3. 5" X 6" and has places to record mileages, maintenance, and other travel expenses.

Stop by your local H & R Block tax office and ask for a Travel and Auto expense tax record book to record your vehicle expenses. It is designed to track all those deductible things for when you do business travel including maintenance. You can use the different sections for whatever you want.

The cover of the book has a nominal price, but I have never met an office that charged a thing for them, including mine.



Don't forget to track mileages for business, medical, moving, or charitable purposes. They could be deductible on your taxes depending on your situation. I have seen little books like these save people quite a bit of $$.

I keep a log in the glovebox for fuel purchase date, gallons, mileage, mpg, and price. In the toolbox I have another log of repairs done, PM's due etc. They are just on a 5x7, I believe, piece of thick paper.
