I'm reading my new and improved DVD owners manual on the computer (can I just have an ole fashioned manual please!) and I see that for my new 2013 truck, Ram recommends that I change my differential oil every 15 K, transmision fluid every 30 K, and transfer case fluid every 60 K, if I tow a trailer with the truck. Now I'm new to the Aisin transmission, but I checked over on EBs posts on the C & C page and it appears that his truck is allowed to go 60 K between fluid changes, and that is commericial operation. I'm sure that if I was towing the 30 K that the truck is rated to tow all the time, that it might be justified, but towing 12K, which will put me at 24K GCW, requires cutting the maintenace schedule by a factor of 2? Really? The transfer case is a part time transfer case. The front drive shaft doesn't even move unless I'm in 4WD. I know that the shaft is still turing inside the T-case, and all the power is still flowing through it, but come on, its a shaft spinning in a sealed case running on bearings. You don't even have to inspect the oil level in the differentials unless there is oil evident on the outside of the case (indicating leakage) unless you are using the truck to pull a trailer. This seems to be excessive to me! I understand the importance of fuel filters. I understand the importance of proper maintenance, but that's why I pay for the best transmission and the best engine. I use my truck well within its capabilities and I'd bet that sampling of those fluids would show that they were still like new. If I can go 15 K on an engine oil change then I should be able to go longer on the differentials and transmission since there is no combustion by products introduced inside the transmission! Changing the fuel filters is now over a $100 in parts alone! It seems that if the truck is towing, alot of maintenance is required. My $0. 02. Ken Irwin
