Maintenance Schedule “B” for 04?

Do you agree that 7500 miles is the correct time to change the oil and oil filter on maintenance schedule “B”?

The maintenance schedule in my owner’s manual says 7500 miles between oil changes. The separate maintenance logbook says 3750 between oil changes. I think I saw 7500 miles recommended on the Cummins web page for schedule “B”.

Thanks

I Agree

Mine is the same on the '03. Since I don't tow heavy, I'm changing every 6000 miles... .

Not only with Schedule B at 7500 miles, but with several of the gentleman on this forum who use bypass filters, and change the oil when SCIENCE says the oil is bad.

Now, to be fair, I won't be putting a bypass filter on my motor until the warranty is up from Cummins, but the way I drive, that's only two years.

I drive mostly highway, and change my oil every 7500 miles.

The Dealer changes the oil, and they make the oil change interval out at 6000 miles on the reminder sticker, however, I've never been given any warnings about warranty failings by either the service writer or the diesel tech at the service department.

Think about it in these terms, 12 quarts of oil compared to a convential truck with 4 to 5 quarts, should see extended life, and lastly, somewhere in that owners manual is a 15,000 mile oil change interval... ... I don't know if that means when you run the truck in a vacuum or what, but I think the guys with bypass filters are seeing over 20,000 miles on some brands of synthetic oil.

But then again, I'm a computer geek, not a mechanic ;)

Look next to that. There's little asterisks that will tell you what that oil change interval refers to. The 04 (305/555 motor) log book has the same notation for oil change every 3,750 miles under schedule B, but that only applies to CA trucks.

Thanks for pointing out asterisk.

Thanks for all of your replies.

CChase, thanks for drawing my attention to the asterisk. I am going to use the schedule in the owner’s manual.
