Transport Drivers
I am leased to Prairie Schooner Transport in Emmett, ID. I only get about 60 cents per mile, but they aren't concerned about CDL, or vehicle inspections, or log books. We haul out of LA and Boise, but loaded rate is not much better than 50%. Sometimes you get lucky, though.
I worked a year for Horizon and did not like log books or going to the east coast all the time. They were better for back hauls, though. Don't remember what the pay rate was.
What's killing me is the mileage. I routinely run 75 mph loaded or unloaded and get 11 mpg empty and 7 loaded. This is about half what the other drivers get. I am thinking a 1. 5 to 1 overdrive might be the ticket. Since the "turn-up" I haven't had to down-shift for anything, but I always seem to be around 2800 rpm,
