I've about had it with the alarm system that came on the '95 we bought last year. Plenty of reasons to hate it:

(1) We have only one key fob, but two drivers

(2) The dawg keeps accidentally(?) pushing the valet/panic buttons

(3) Have searched for but never found the disarm button inside the cab.

(4) Scares the beejeezus out of me every time I dis/reconnect the batteries.

(5) Its not going to stop a thief, but it sure can stop me :(

I just want it to go away. My mechanic refuses to do the job... says that with the engine cut-off and all its too complicated unless you're real familiar with the system, which he isn't, and he doesn't want to leave me with a truck that won't start (p. s. - I respect him for this... I LIKE mechanics who will say "I don't know how to do that").

Judging from the installation booklet I found in the glovebox, its a Mopar Accessories EVSII & Keyless Entry, and indeed the keyfob has a Chrystler symbol on it, so its apparently not some aftermarket thing.

Anyone have experience killing this system? Any tips, tricks and gotchas to offer? Thanks!

Easy solution, pick up another key fob on ebay.

(2) The dawg keeps accidentally(?) pushing the valet/panic buttons

Easy solution, open up key fob and place a piece of paper under panic button, close case, no more panic button activation.

(3) Have searched for but never found the disarm button inside the cab.

Not so easy one here, I have a 2002 and cannot find a disarm button inside of cab either.

(4) Scares the beejeezus out of me every time I dis/reconnect the batteries.

Easy one, and good for one laugh, have the wife reconnect the batteries while you watch. Works once, trust me.

(5) Its not going to stop a thief, but it sure can stop me :(

Don't know what to say about this one, but you can wire your horn(s) so you can toggle them on to emit sound and toggle them off to not sound.

Thanks for the chuckle, HH, but serious info from anyone who's done this would be appreciated. So has anyone successfully DC'd their alarm system?

BTW, with ten thousand fob codes out there, I'd have to buy 5000 of 'em on EBay just to have a 50/50 chance of finding one that works with my system. Probably not the best solution.

Have you located the alarm control unit? I don't know for certain but I belive that the factory unit is a plug-in plug-out unit. If you remove the ACU and plug the looms back together alarm system goes away. It will be behind glove box or near PCM. I'm just guessing here but trying to help. Hands on is so much easier. :) Mike

I installed one of those in my truck. I purchased it from the dealer.

"Mopar Accessories EVSII & Keyless Entry"

It plugs into the wiring harness at the steering column(ignition switch). If you decide to remove it, the plugs should be wire tied to the steering column. According to the directions, the control box should be wire tied above the pedals onto the steering column as well.

You should be able to put it into valet mode simply by pushing the red indicator light.

The light should light up for a few seconds to indicate the valet mode has been set and then the alarm will not arm until you reset it(by pushing the light again).

I have the install instructions and owners manual that I can dig if need be.

The override switch is a push button switch that is recessed into a round black plastic "cup". This hides it real good and makes it quite difficult to hit the switch even when you know where it is located. I installed mine and still have a hard time hitting it.

I really like unit. I can't see any reason to disconnect it.

Also, I did the paper trick for the panic mode in my fob.

I can tell where the valet / disarm button might be, normally if the installer is good they don't mount it in plain site. Look around the diagnostic plug inside the cab; they put them close to that unit.

Good luck

I installed the system in my 99 after I got it. I've been happy with it, so here are some suggestions:

(1) We have only one key fob, but two drivers

Does your one fob have a s/n on it? The manual for the EVSII I think gives a number to call to get a replacement

(2) The dawg keeps accidentally(?) pushing the valet/panic buttons

Its easy to move. I assume you are talking about the red one?

(3) Have searched for but never found the disarm button inside the cab.

Its a little black button, same size and shape as the red flashing one, and sits in a little black cup. We got 10" of snow last night and the 99 is still buried, but PM me and remind me in a few days and I'll take a picture of it, so you at least know what you are looking for.

(4) Scares the beejeezus out of me every time I dis/reconnect the batteries.

Been going to put a plug in the wires to the siren to address this on my 99. Might get around to it this year.

(5) Its not going to stop a thief, but it sure can stop me :(

The engine disarm feature gave me a discount on the insurance. And the siren goes off if its armed and the interior lights come on. I think thats a great feature.

Like others have said, its a plug and play installation. You just need to take off the knee panel under the steeringwheel and you'll probably see the control box and a connector that goes inline in the ignition harness. The only part that is hardwired in on my 99 was a yellow wire to the dome light.

Good luck - Vic

You can still get the correct fob-door lock from DC. Not all dealers know about them. I went through the same thing last summer. I dont have it handy but there is a phone # for the alarm to get tech. advice. They were very polite and helpful to me. No, you do not have to be a dealer to use the #. If I can find the # I will post it.

Thanks, JW, that would be very helpful. I did go ahead and buy a used fob on EBay, for a '96, because I found the instructions regarding how to 'teach' my system to recognize another fob (turn the key on, turn the dome light on and off three times within five seconds, wait for the three beeps, then push the fob's #1 button, then turn the key off, rub your tummy while patting your head). But my truck is a '95, and it didn't work, sigh, so I guess I need to find a brand-new fob.

Since you already bought a new fob, the easiest thing to do is go to a GOOD dealer. There is an instrument to check your transmitters. They just click the fob at it and it will tell you if good or not or if need new battery. Your fobs, both have to be re-programmed at the same time. Dealers charge about $45 to do this and it takes about 5-10 min. Now, the EVS/MOPAR is made by TACCO 950 E. Whitcomb Madison Heights,MI 48071 You can buy new fobs direct from them at 49. 95 each You must have acode to give them from your fob. Maybe TECH will tell you. . because I dont know that one. Now, the TECH line is 1-800-346-6727. Some dealers dont know what they are doing. The first I went to didnt and I wrote DC about the lack of service. Mine is a 97. When you get it all fixed, I think you will enjoy it. GOOD LUCK, Jacques.
