Hi.

I'd like to make a O/D lockout switch for my 05, like the older automatics had. Does anyone here know how to wire one up? Is it relatively simple like wiring a tcc lockup switch?

Thanks

Ben

No, its not as simple as the older trucks. You have to feed the ECU a signal it expects to lockout OD or it will go into limp mode and set codes. Also, to drop the trans out of OD you must umlock the TC if it is locked otherwise it won't down shift. You can do it with a couple of switches and resistors but it is not very user friendly and if not sequenced and timed right it will set codes.

BD has kit out that does just what you want and all reports say it works quite well. Might want to consider it before spending the time to figure out all the gotchas. :)

You don't have to make up anything. Just ask your dealer to flash the controller from TSB 21-006-07. It will allow the OD off feature like 04 and 06 trucks. You do loose the tow/haul feature, but the OD off is the better of the two. Also note the TSB says after you flash you have to enable "overdrive off" feature using the DRBIII.

The TSB is not clear on that. It says OD off has to be enabled, so I read that to mean if it is disabled, you are back to tow/haul. Trouble is the DRBIII is needed to toggle it on or off.

That said, with all the complaining on this forum about the loss of OD off in 2005, I suspect most are going to want the flash.

Not a chance, not even close! Even with the lack of a lockout, the 05 protocol is way better than the earlier trucks.

First off, I can find no reference to that TSB on any of the sites that usually track the TSB's. Makes me think this is an under the radar one that has not made it into public view, given that, I wouldn't even think of letting it into a decent performing truck. No telling what else it is gonna screw up and if it is that unclear about the effects, no way. :(

Second, giving up TH for the non-TH program and a lockout that may very well not lock the TC is a huge step in the wrong direction. The 05 FINALLY had a decent lockup protocol that works. The only thing it is missing is a OD lockout with the same TH protocol and BD solved that problem.

Which BD trans controller are you referring to? I see that they have a new one out now, in addition to the autoloc, etc.

I'm planning on using a momentary foot switch to control tcc lock up, I'd just like a simple way to keep the truck out of OD when desired.

The recall sounds interesting, but I think I'll wait to see how others like it. I really like the existing tow/haul programming, just wish I could have the best of both worlds like the 06s.

Thanks

Ben

They don't have it listed. Give them a call and ask for it. Good luck. :)

Older and wiser?...naah just older!

Yes, I guess I am greedy and was wishing against hope for the '06 style dual function on the button. Sorta like waiting for the e-brake program for my '05#@$%! . There was a day when I'd have already traded up for a 6. 7 with the newfangled transmission, but, other than theses couple of gripes the darn truck just works too good to let go of this soon. Must be getting old:{

I wish we could have the best of both worlds too. I think computer wise & transmission wise 05s and 06s are pretty much the same... It'd be cool if someone like Marco could write a program for 05's to have the same O/D and tow/haul functions as the 06's. Also the e-brake program...

I agree! I'm still waiting for the e-brake program too.

Calm down:-laf Everytime somebody at a dealer trys to help

The TSB is not under the radar... ... ... . just because you don't have access;)

The number is 21 006 07. I like the tow haul also,I have 4. 10's,I planned ahead. That being said for those that would like to be able to lock out od now you can.

Bob

I wonder if the dealer could lock the truck in tow/haul, then activate the O/D off switch... I'd be fine with having the truck constantly in tow/haul, thats how I usually drive around anyways.

THATS what we were told about the out of park alarm #@$%! , and the hard start/white smoke flash that reduced low end power #@$%! , and... ... need I go on? :-laf :-laf

When I get "help" I will be the first to congratulate, praise, and buy the beer. :) Until then, I am adopting a pessimistic view of TSB's that cannot be found or reviewed by the general public for potential negative effects. It is really  to be promised a fix and find out something else has been broken, then be told "sorry" you can't go back. ;)

I did a little research today on the BD solution. I'm disappointed that it is not a plug-n-play, as I frown on splicing the factory harness, especially on critical stuff. However, it seems to do exactly what I have been looking for. It also makes Dodge look even MORE LAME for not devising a factory solution for their ill received programming short-cut.

If anyone is using one I'd sure like some feedback.

I tried to attach the PDF of the BD Overdrive Lockout installation instructions but the file size was too large.

Tom

I agree about the splicing. For the money I think most of the transmission shift controllers on the market should be plug-n-play.

Tom, where did you find the pdf, is it on their website now? What other features does this model have?

Thanks

Ben

Ben,
I emailed BD via their web site and a fellow named Dave responded with the PDF. It looks like a very staight-forward install, but involves the aforementioned splicing.
Tom

Problem with the 06 is you loose T-H when you lock out OD. Seems these guys can never just do it right for once. Hope the new 6 speed works well.

Had the flash done on my 05 3500 Friday at Longhorn Dodge in Ft. Worth TX... I was thier first. Works awesome... you do lose the T/H but in my line of work the T/H was just that, Totally Helpless. ATS also makes a L/O kit but it will only work properly with thier valve body so check this out with BD. The TSB came out on Mar 26th so if you call a dealer you'll probably need the number, as I did, because they had not heard of it. Good truckin'
