I am driving down there and the engineer is going to use my truck as the guinea pig ;) and redesign the tube since they are having people calling with the fitment problem. Im going to prob get a few things from the deal for making the trip down there too cant beat that! if anyone has any questions associated with this problem or if anyone has the same problem let me know so i can bring it to their attention... . ill bring back some pics

Hey

The guys are AFE are so nice and helpful

Top notch company

Looks like they will be redesigning the tube on the 2nd gen stage 2 intake becuase it hits the alternator on some trucks only...

Erik

please let us know what the fix is going to be!!!

i have been thinking of just taking the tube to a belt or disc sander and taking about a half inch off of it... i just have not looked at it closely enough to see what it will do to the fit at the other end of the tube.

say hello to the nice folks down there. my stage II came with a box top that did not fit. they mailed another one out right away!! great, friendly customer service!!

They are going to be redesigning the tube shortly by adding a shorter boot on the bottom and putting a small dent in it. AnywAYS, ill keep you posted!

Please keep us posted, I have the same problem.

Glad Jason turned me onto this thread, I was about to start modifying the tube myself.

skargo, i will be calling afe on monday and talking to saul and finding out whats going on for production on a new tube... I will let hime know you are having the same problem

Erik

Update:

Talked to Saul at AFE and he said that the tube will soon be redesigned by cuting some off the bottom of the tube and moving the lip back. They might also be playing a bubble in the mold. I want them to do that but it doesnt seem like they want to put the bubble in there. We will see. i will give him a call next week and keep you up to date

erik

I will be calling this week again but it seems that Saul isnt to concerned with the problem and its going to cost to much money to fix. I figured AFE was a better company than this.

Erik

Hey Bob, I did know the whole story of what I was told. I was told by Saul less than a month ago that since they would have to put a bubble in the middle of the cast, that might not be possible and with the minor mods they made to mine, it would be good for now. I'm not happy since it is only 1/8 inch of clearlance. But for the present time, they were not making a new tube. I'm just a customer and you know them more or are a dealer for them so I guess thats how you have the inside info. Maybe they should have extended this info with me. I was also promised a filter cover becuase I spent my own fuel money to drive down to their business and show them the problem, did I ever get it, no... . Thats why I am unsatisfied as of now, hopefully it will change when I call. Look at your comment, if you don't know the whole story, why am I being flamed???

any updates?

i'm up in seattle for a few more months so it's not so pressing, but i would like to get the tube off of the alternator.

what's the proposed fix? shortening the stretch between the alternator and the turbo? will AFE be willing to do the surgery update for free if we ship the tubes back?

I don't think them boys at AFE pay much attention to detail, I waited till they had a filter system that was suppose to be designed for the 04. 5 to order one cause everyone said that the one for the 03 was a little too tall and had to be trimmed, well lo and behold the 04. 5 is about a half inch too tall. I know not a big deal but this thing with the torque tube is about 400 bucks, c'mon AFE wake up this ain't rocket science or brain surgery all ya gotta do is look and think about what your eyeballs are tellin ya!!!!!

Hey guys-

Here is the update on the 2nd gen 2 stage intake.

Saul said that the new tube is being trimmed more on the turbo side and a smaller rubber has been used as the connection between the tube and turbo. That brought it away from the alternator on my truck, but its still very close and i dont like it. He said because they don't want to incurre the high costs of remaking the tube with a bubble in it, that will not be done. I think the rest of you need to call and complain about this. I feel it should be taken care of. the number is 951-279-4050 and ask for saul...

Thanks

Erik

Just wondering if there have been any further updates? Is AFE going to make any changes to the design or are they just saying tough luck?
