Making a WIF sensor?

I assume making a WIF sensor is fairly straight forward right??



I mean they are nothing more than a pair of probes that, when in contact with water, form a circuit correct? I plan on using a pair of brass machine screws and a LED to make one in my water knock out...

I think that the WIF sensor uses stainless tips , if you are going to change the metal than your changing the resistance and that would make the computor program out of spec. , try measuring a stock sensors res. in water & fuel to see what you need to match up .

The I'm making my own WIF "system"... not hooking it into the OE system...



That's an awesome idea though... checking the resistance across an OE WIF sensor...

I think they work by resistance rather than voltage (although obviously you can convert between the two).

Yeah, but when you add water across those contacts, you get a resistance you can read with a meter... then you can use that to compare one to the other...



I actually built one this weekend... I can light an LED up instantly. I used two 1. 5" #8 brass machine screws... they are around 0. 5" apart, however in "testing" the LED would light with over 1. 0" between the screws...



I will post up my creation in the other thread about installing the tank... I built it this weekend and, short one minor seeping leak, it works AWESOME.
