cannot tell you how many times I watched the oil pressure drop to 0 running 3K RPM down the highway in my LB7... couldnt keep injector/pumps in those things. Got a new engine every 70-80K miles... still better odds than the new 6. 7L Ford I currently drive!!

To the OP... I would get the oil sample ASAP... .

The temps being higher arent uncommon especially if its where to T. I. is... I would actually expect to see that. Does the truck smoke excessively? Does it fuel knock? Down on power?

wingate,

No smoke, no knock, run's great. The only question has been increased oil level.

Before last change it had gained about a quart. Now after big gulp of staydne it seems stable.

The main reason for all this fuss is just to see if I can trust it on a trip to Alaska.

Thanks

Thanks Todd,

Will wait for oil analysis before I go.

Don't need to leave for two weeks but have to get there before the Sockie salmon run near Soldotna. Usually aboout July 15.

Todd,

If I seem overly cautions, it's because I have made this trip 4 times in the past. There is not much help if you have trouble in northern BC or the Youkon.

Last trip, I met a fellow traveler at a road side stop where he was placing a phone call to Whitehorse about 200 miles back down the road. He had just spent two weeks in Whitehorse having his entire fuel system changed, including new cp3 and injectors.

(Chevy truck but about the same fuel system I have now).

He only made it 200 miles down the road and was now looking for a place to park his fifth wheel while his truck was being dragged back to town. He was now three weeks behind schedule and wondering if he would ever get to Alaska.

I want to avoid this.

Waiting for the oil sample.

Thanks,

Rog

OK guys,

Update!

I just recieved the oil analysis. Only 700 miles on the change but I did it anyhow. They said even though a few things were out of line, there was nothing to worry about.

1. fuel dilution . 5%. OK

2, oil viscocity at only 30W level, low for a 15-40 oil but perhaps that is what is making

my oil pressure drop at idle. They said not to worry.

3, Silicon was high at 14. should be only around 4 even at 6000 miles. They said to

check the air filter and induction system. (my air filter is new and boost is normal,

anything else I should check?)

Other than that, they said enjoy your trip.

Check coolant level. I've seen oil levels rise do to coolant leaking internally. These cases the oil never had a milk discoloration. The mechanics could not find any reason for the rising oil and both engines were lost do to this over time.
